Tough game to watch, honestly. Philly mucked it up right from the start and the refs were doing some sort of collective out of body experience thing that kind of maximized the impact. Hard to know what to even think about a game that got so sidetracked with special teams play. Still, the Canes powered through, found a way to get it level and then gutted it out in OT. I think Hall called his game a B- and that probably goes for the whole lot of them, but winning without your fastball is a big deal in the post season. Oh, and good on Freddie for buckling down and playing really well after barfing up two quick, early goals. That’s the point at which his mental game has gone soft in years past, but not last night. Nice.
Going forward, a lot of how this looks will depend on whether or not the Flyers are going to be allowed to hook, hold and interfere to the extent they were last night. When they got the pace slowed down to where they could handle it, Philly was a handful. But, this ain’t a Carolina team that really seems to care what it looks like, so maybe that doesn’t really matter. This is not sour grapes by the way. This stuff happens every year and it just a part of the playoff experience in the NHL.
