The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

I could probably talk myself into 4th, and Korchinski for Knies, Robertson and Joshua or some such if Stenberg was gone

Depending on how you feel about Carels/Reid might be best path to a #1D

Doesn't work for us though, we're not tanking. I love Carels, think he's a bigger meaner version of Scott Niedermayer at his top end. Gun to head he's my pick as the best defender from this draft, but he's probably not in the NHL until next season (he's still 17 ffs) and probably not an impact defender for 2-4 years if his development goes smoothly.

We need to be good again now.

I would think you could/should be able to know if Werenski takes the max money before any deal

Only signed for two more seasons.

And Werenski can't talk extension until July 1st, 2027. So if you're trading for him now, an extension will not and cannot be part of the deal. All you're getting in exchange for sure is two seasons. Which isn't enough for me if I'm being asked to include Knies in the deal.

That's a real nice package of youngsters tbf, but yeah Knies would be the best asset of the group. GM's love power forwards. There's like 5 in the league like Knies.

I would call it 2 B assets and 2 Cs.

More importantly, it's a package we could match.

Yeah thats the problem.

I perfectly okay with Ivar/Carels/Reid.

I would love nothing more than Vancouver making Malholtra the nepo pick so Chicago isnt tempted to take base forward

and my body is ready for that. But that takes time and patience. We probably don't have the time to wait for our nerds to product 2-3-4 guys like that.

I'd push hard to get rid of Stolarz. I think Woll will end up being the more durable of them, and is younger.

Yet Stolarz should command more. I definitely will jump at a good opportunity to bring in value for him.

OEL I'd be hesitate to lose. He gives us exactly what we need back there and at a great price with term left.

Robertson is awesome and must stay and get a full opportunity now under a new coach with a brain in his head, preferably undamaged.

sure. all depends on what we're getting and who the other team likes.

point is we have assets of varying quality that aren't can't-lose assets.

Why are u angry? I thought We had our ME too moment there.

iu

Well, they did turn him in Necas, who was apparently being held down in Carolina. When you replace a 100 point guy with a 100 point guy, well yeah you're not going to miss the 100 point guy.

missed the part where we were giving knies away for free.

Raddysh had a very good year and I was already interested, but he's showing up very high on lists of impact defenders so he's a priority for me if the contract is even semi-reasonable. I do think spending big dollars for a lot of years on Andersson is probably going to be a mistake, though.

Of course you kick tires on top guys, but why would Columbus trade Werenski? I doubt the Rangers want to move Fox either, but maybe there's a chance there. You have to be realistic about who's available, and maybe Dougie is the best guy on the market (and even that's hard to say with a new GM in town).

It's impossible to assess this situation without knowing who is actually available. I'd prefer not to move Knies as well if we can avoid it.

Why would the Leafs trade Matthews? If Werenski decides he wants out, Columbus is gonna trade him before his contract expires.

But with him and especially Fox, I'm beyond doubtful he will want to play in Canada. So it would have to be someone else, if anyone. Sucks that pretty much all of the best d in the league are Americans.

Raddysh may well be awesome and a legit #1.

I'm wary, but if we do sign him i'd be hopeful.

I'm not really interested in Andersson tbh. I haven't looked closely but i don't think vegas has helped his nerdies at all, and he's not used in parcitularly big or tough minutes. But he's got definite name recognition that probably inflates his price too.

They pretty much have to get one of Raddysh or Andersson I think, and yeah of those two I'm definitely on the Raddysh train.
