The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Passing on McKenna only to watch him turn into a perennial 100-point player somewhere else would be a new and special kind of long-term torture for Leaf fans. Even if the player we end up instead turns into a nice, solid 2nd-tier type star player.

I can honestly say that until something happened to bring me back in (like the Jays run last year after a decade of not giving a fuck) that I'd be out.

Literally burnt the place down and still won't speak poorly of him. But will talk tough about the leading goal scorer in Leaf history.

No the angle is the org didn't give Tre the chance to "fully implement his vision" even though he literally did an interview admitting he's had no plan the whole time he's been here....

Honestly, if we're going to win, we need this. It is the exact opposite of the attitude of Matty, Willy, and Tavares.

Knies has a bit of it in him, I think, but he's still gentleman of the year comparatively. I think McKenna might actually bring a fair amount of it too.

Suffice it to say that between skating, puck skills, and nastiness, I would hate to lose OEL, and am happy to risk any decline he might suffer.

OEL is one of the few players on the roster that plays that in the trenches headhunting style that Florida plays when he gets pissed off. McCabe too.

OEL isn’t irreplaceable and is a guy we should be looking to upgrade on.

But we need a few guys who can move the puck like him before we can entertain moving on from him imo.

And I don’t think that will be easy to do.

Tough to say without seeing what our 3C situation shakes loose as.

I know this will shock everyone, but I think Robertson should be given a legit shot in the top 6. He's the better offensive generator of the two (1.85 P/60 to Cowan's 1.44) but Cowan is more of a 2 way player and would probably be good on a moderate usage 3rd line.

Like to see Robertson under a coach that allows for offense/crearivity. See how he does before making any decisions on future as a leaf.

Could be zeke’s BFF and also Leaf’s next coach

Bednar, as he has been since the end of Game 1, kept pointing out that the underlying metrics of the series are dead even or in favor of the Avalanche, insisting they’re playing well enough to win.

That said, I agree with his larger point—Akhtyamov is pushing them to make some decisions on their goaltending.

And Stolarz/Woll could be interesting trade chips to dangle at the draft for teams desperate for goaltending.
