I think EDM will keep him until the end, in hopes of making one last Cup run, which means they will gamble with the idea that he might re-sign again with them. They won't trade him...

Just like Leafs went all-in with Marner until the end, when the writing was on the wall when he refused to discuss a new contract with them the previous summer. But we're talking McDavid here, so even more reasons to try until the absolute end to win with him and Leon.
