Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

It's not a story because theres no way to make the Leafs, or their fans, look bad in that narrative. They would be reminding us that Mitch was the one who left town willingly, exactly how he wanted to and when he wanted to. You can't lol Leafs at that, so no one brings it up.

Holy, somehow even though I’ve even mentioned the trade veto in recent days, it never even clicked that he could’ve been on the other team in these finals if he’d wanted to. Oh man, that would make a Canes win that much sweeter.

Not too surprising. Tampa's thing has always been getting their guys to sign for huge discounts.

Kucherov's bargain $9.5M contract expires next summer as well, so they've got to save some bucks for that. Presumably he signs for much less than a 130-point player should be making, but in a world where Kaprizov's getting $17M, how can he not go for a big raise?
TB can offer the 8th year to DR with a lower AAV

Factor in the no state tax they can easily make it work

Just fucking win tonight canes. Without freddy so that narrative also dies.

And let mitch miss his best opportunity with an aging vegas team and let him slowly whittle away the rest of his career on a declining team.

Just fucking get it done.

Yeah, this would be as fucking perfect as possible if it happens.

- The team Mitch left moves on with Gavin McKenna
- The team Mitch vetoed trade to wins cup
- The team Mitch appears to have specifically chosen to leave for, a move potentially more than a year in the making before his arrival, benefits from the best playoff run of his career and still can't win
- Even during the best playoff run of his career, Mitch didn't show up when it really mattered

The fact that Tampa can offer an 8th year isn’t too relevant when they’re allegedly only offering a five-year contract to Raddysh.

So yeah, they can make it work, but the question is if they will. They’ve shown time and again that they’re pretty strict about setting a price for players that fits into the team’s salary structure and that they’re fine with the player leaving if they won’t take that price.

And there is a non-zero chance Raddysh might cave and take their deal, if he likes it in Tampa. A tax-free $28M is still a hefty bag for a guy that spent the first 10 years or so of his hockey career making either an OHL stipend or AHL salary, and who’s been making close to the NHL minimum since jumping to the NHL full time three years ago. We’ll see.

Seriously, a Carolina win would confuse the shit out of their little reptile brains that all of the simple narratives come from.

- Can't give it to the goalie, he's apparently just had another nervous breakdown and facing 12 shots a night or some shit really wasn't impressive either
- Taylor Hall and Jackson Blake have had the quietest PPG playoff runs anyone has had in living memory and have barely impacted the finals...those are Carolina's leading scorers. Ehlers has been more impactful, but not really the mold of a Conn Smythe winner.
- Ghost is the only defender within screaming distance of the conversation and lol, they're not voting for a 3rd pairing PP QB

Not gonna lie, it would be kid of hilarious for Mitch to go pointless tonight, with only one secondary assist over his final 3 games, and them still giving him the Conn Smythe.

I think what this does is ensures Raddysh tests his market. This is his big shot at life altering money and 28 millie from Tampa is nice, but 48 million from somewhere else is much better, state taxes or no.

While I don't think the hockey has been particularly good throughout these playoffs (it's been pretty awful tbh), the storylines and narrative shifts are top notch. It has definitely highlighted the Toronto-hate-first driven markets and media "insiders" to have Mitchy succeeding. Marner has definitely earned the praise to an extent, but comparing him to Gretz after Game 3? Like give me a fucking break.
