The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

A lot of the media hatred on this board goes way overboard (imo),

nope.

not to say there aren't some real dum-dums out there... and I will say Sid seemed semi-entertaining back in the day when he was teamed up with Tim, but my goodness has he ever gone downhill, can't even watch a 5 second clip of him. Just completely wrong on every issue with the added wrinkle of coming across like a massively arrogant douchebag imbecile every time he opens his mouth. He's gone completely off the rails.
this is you admitting we were right btw.

this came out much messier than I hoped, but here's a breakdown of the the Kings team Hiller inherited, the kings team under him, and the kings team after him.

all i wanted to get a sense of was who was on the rosters, their ages, and their general usage - 5v5 time on ice percentage, and ozone-dzone starts.

an asterisk means that that player didn't actually play many games in that period, whether it was because of injury, or of a trade out or a late trade in.

i tried to move players in slots only when there was a major changes in their usage (like with Byfield and Clarke), and otherwise just kept them in line with their previous slot if the usage was similar enough.

all these questions were lame (except for the one about integrating data into coaching)

great to see the Leafs learned from the last presser and muzzled Simmons

Too bad, I was looking forward to the Simmons question. Yeah, the rest were boring. TLDR: He likes data, he likes skating, and he likes spirit or some gobbleygook like that.

Can't wait for the Steve Simmons question

“Hi Jim, Steve Simmons, Toronto Sun. I have spoken to several dozen people from around the hockey world—important, big-name people who’s names we would all recognize—and to a man they all describe you as an ancient horrifying undead monster that sustains his unnatural life by tearing the still-beating hearts out of the chests of innocent young children and devouring them whole. How do you respond to that?”

It kind of feels like there is an organizational mandate to say absolutely nothing, which is probably smart. Don't give them media anything to chew on. Either that, or the questions sucked. Probably a mix of both.
