So they hired a guy who nobody even mentioned once, not one time in any rumor, which is hilarious.
He seems to be an accomplished (by the numbers) guy who likes offense more than defense, but doesn’t in any way ignore defense.
I watch a decent amount of Kings hockey and they played a fast, crisp, smart style that I was actually jealous of. I always figured they were just faster and younger or something and never paid attention but naturally the coaching and systems could have been the difference maker.
And yeah, Hiller looks the part. I’m good with that, and don’t expect to want to throw something at his face or projectile vomit at the sight of him like the last clown and others like him.

You may see this tossed around. But as an avid standings watcher, I can absolutely assure you that the LA Kings had by far the easiest strength of schedule in the NHL in their final 23 games. It was one of the reasons I was so bullish on them making the playoffs! They had Vancouver 3 times, the Leafs, the flames twice, etc. But even then, they weren't particularly great.

One thing Chayka will have to make sure of is that Hiller doesn’t have any say when it comes to making coach’s challenges. Because he had one of the worst ones in history while he was in LA:

I hope Chayka isn’t one of these guys who trades for the sake of making trades. I don’t want to have any deals that involve Knies or Willy. Deal around the supporting cast to upgrade, but no blockbusters just to get in the news.
