Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

Also props for doing it quickly. With no competition among buyers, the price was only going down… with opportunity costs biting them in the ass

I don’t follow that line of reasoning.

Why was the price only going down? The brothers wanted to be together in Florida now. Florida wanted to get the brothers in Florida now. They made the active request to force it. They had the desperation, not Ottawa. And if the return was going to be draft picks only, Ottawa could’ve held it over them that they wanted to use those picks and not take whoever Florida picked with them later.

If Florida and the Tkachuks wanted this done, and Ottawa had two years to dick them around unless they got the deal they wanted, and Ottawa was going to insist on making their own selections with this year’s picks, they could’ve squeezed Florida more over these next few days. That’s what I would’ve done, unless I had some other deal I wanted to flip those picks for that might go away if I waited, but clearly that wasn’t the case here.

But there's still reason to be gutted and sad about it! Which is what others were saying. I think. I don't think anyone felt they were in a position of strength with this one, but the reality of the situation still does kinda suck

God, this “demand a trade to one team only” shit from guys with multiple years left on their contract is such a fucking embarrassment.

The modern NHL might be even more pathetic than the NBA during the peak LeBron superfriends era.

At least in the NBA, most of these trade demands came from future HOFers

who here feels sad about the Sens. I heard a lot of inter-provincial mocking but what do I know

And it was usually a collection of stars looking to essentially put together a contender from scratch.

Rather than limp-dicked B-grade stars looking to hop onto the bandwagon of teams that have already won multiple recent championships. Big Kevin Durant energy from these hockey bros.

I wonder what happens if MacKinnon doesn’t miss a half empty net and there is no Kash Patel after hours Olympic party

Sens fans, not here! I'd be gutted as a sens fan. Brady is a terrific player, the absolute peak upside of what we hope Knies can be. The point is that yes they did alright considering the circumstances, but that's not equivalent value to him as a player.

A lot of Sens fans hated the guy. Not a real captain, made fun of his own teammates. Etc

well you brought up sadness
Based on objective facts. The emotional stuff is whatever. They didn't get full value for their captain, best player and one of the top wingers in the league. It sucks no matter much sens fans may pretend it doesn't.
