The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

I never stayed away for that long. I think it was 3-4 months.

What a time to be alive, as you like to say.
I wasn't referring to you! I meant that the "insiders" are at their cottages, gms are taking time off, etc etc. next couple of months will be deathly silent beyond a few scattered moves here and there.

But yeah it is a great time to be alive and you need to stop feeling guilt over having this hobby. You could be on the streets jerking off dudes for meth. Posting on a message board isn't half bad.

It's at least 60% bad, and I can't help but round up!

It is very funny that there are still multiple players available and begging for contracts that are better than any of the bums Chayka signed or acquired on July 1st.

I do wonder what the holdup is with Patrick Kane, though. Surprised he hasn’t picked a destination yet.

I've always said that some dude named JayOnLeafs and Eklund's website were completely legit, super elite insiders that should never be questioned. They would never post a story like this for clicks. Fucking never.

Definitely seems like a consummate professional and totally legit reporter.

I mean signing another 'good' forward would mean the one guy in the bottom 6 who wasn't signed by chayka would be pushed out of the lineup - Dakota Joshua. But he costs $3.25, which seems silly to spend in the pressbox. So moving Joshua would obviously be the move, both for cap and roster reasons.

or the signing isn't really a 'good' forward, but more just another borderline forward, who they wouldn't mind moving in and out of the press box.

same goes on defense - the only moves there would be replacing one of the current guys. one of the current guys would have to move out.

hopefully that would be an upgrade not a downgrade tho.

Pretty crazy. One is a guy that Columbus was willing to take for Werenski straight up while the other is a guy they’re trying to run out of town for nothing.

Not really crazy, no. One guy is a 32 year old whose effectiveness leans heavily on his skating continuing to be better than most of his peers and who’s declined each of the past two years.

And the second guy is a 24 year-old who scored a combined 31 goals & 97 points in his age 22 & 23 seasons, before dropping off last season.

It’s an apples to hand grenades comparison as far as trade value goes.

25 next month, only a 40-50 point guy the last couple of years, numbers nothing spectacular, and making over $10m. Not the least bit surprising that Dallas might want to move off from him in the right deal and let someone else bank on some hidden upside.

One was 7th in Norris voting the season before as a 23 yr old, the other is a 32 yr old, coming off of a bad season, signed to a long term deal that might be a small albatross.

Context matters.
