2025-26 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

I don't know if this will work, but I am posting this with a gift article link to the Triangle Business Journal...

What the article doesn't address is whether any of this money is being spent on visitor locker room upgrades. As has been posted here before, the visitor situation at Lenovo Center was voted by players as the worst in the league.
Always been bad. But don’t care. Let the visitors be as uncomfortable as possible. Suck it up buttercup

It’s my understanding that all of the non-basketball locker rooms will be updated (State did upgrades to their team area on their own dime 2 years ago). The only floor plans I’ve seen didn’t get to that level of detail, but from the stuff I’ve read I don’t think there will be structural changes in that area. They DID make some structural changes to that lowest level in other portions of the building, so … maybe. I think it’s safe to assume that it’s gonna be the same screwed up configuration but with better finishings. And also, meh … what do I really care?

What i wish they would do is do some structurally remodeling, if it’s even possible, to extend the canes locker down the hall to the tunnel they come out of where the fans lineup then they can take the back half of the home locker room and make it a visitors room that is more open rather than 4 small locker rooms connected by a 4 stall bathroom. Then both rooms would be on the same side. Worst case they need to destroy the bathroom between the 2 spaces (which is actually 4 rooms with an accordion divider) to open it up and just have the bathrooms on each end. They would lose some locker room space for concerts and other events so I’m not sure how it would work. They can’t do anything across the hall because that is all ncsu basketball locker. Further down is just a couple tiny rooms they use for the refs and stormy/storm squad

The Assembly has a nice piece about the Canes’ on- and off-ice success this morning, written by Luke DeCock. There’s not a lot of new ground covered here for participants on this board, but it serves as a reminder of how far the franchise has come.

The piece is behind a paywall, but non-subscribers are able to read one free article per month…

They have been opening up space on that ground level on that end ever since construction started, including removing/extending concrete structural elements underneath the ice plant/service yard. That SHOULD open up the area you’re talking about a little, but I’ve never seen a floor plan for that lowest level on that end of the building. That’s expensive work though and a little bit of space down there costs as much as a LOT of space up in the open areas. Thus the extension of the building on the exterior of the section between the arena and Carter Finley.

In retrospect, it would have been great if State had built the football facility in the end zone closest to the arena instead of on the other side. Then you could have extended the arena offices out to meet it and share some space/facilities.

If you follow Luke’s appearances on Ovies and Giglio’s podcast since he moved to Chicago, this covers a lot of the same ground he’s been talking about for the last year. I think he’d like to do a book on the survival of the Hurricanes, but you’d have to think the commercial market for that would be pretty small. He’s definitely pitching books on Triangle basketball though

FML, we have tickets to see Sting at Red Hat on Tuesday and 3rd row center tickets to see Hamilton at DPAC on Thursday.

I'm getting sent to Brooklyn on a client visit Sunday-Wednesday.... great timing there ey? I was thinking Monday-Wednesday was a possibility if the BUF/MTL series ended in 5 (and then I'd miss both home games 1 and 2) but I might get away without missing a game -- Go buffalo in game 6

Yep. If it was my first time seeing Hamilton, I’d be torn. But this would have been the 3rd time. So Hamilton tickets sold, dinner reservation at NanaSteak cancelled. We’ll see what happens Saturday, I might still be able to see Sting.
I am not throwin’ away my shot … unless there’s a playoff game.

I looked into Sting tickets. All Ticketmaster/LiveNation had were resells and I'd have to give up my house and move into a dumpster to afford one. Hard pass.

If you want to see a great band, The Black Angels are playing the Lincoln this Sunday evening. Heavy dark psych in an intimate setting. What's not to love?
