2025-26 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

All present and accounted for at practice today. They won’t practice tomorrow, will next practice on Wednesday.

I power washed my deck yesterday. Does that count?

At least the waiting will be over tonight. Then we can plan for 2 soggy tailgates, the weather doesn’t look good for Thursday or Saturday. Thursday looks like a complete washout. Saturday depends on who you listen to. Accuweather says 25% chance of rain, The Weather Channel says 70%, WRAL says 50%
What a letdown on Thursday for the tailgate indeed …I’m thinking of telling my son and our tailgate crew that the cornhole boards and hockey net will stay in the garage and we will do the Brus pregame jaunt instead. The best part about Brus’ pub is the free parking but the walk over might be soggy!

Game times set for the first 4 games. All games except game 2 and 6 start at 8, game 2 on Saturday starts at 7. Game 6 is TBD.

Welp...I'll be traveling on business in Tallinn for game 3, in Copenhagen for game 4, and flying back to the States during game 5. Despite missing a couple of games, I would be more than happy to have them clinched a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals by the time I arrive home!

The company that I work for is based in Gentofte which borders Copenhagen to the north.

Love Copenhagen we flew SAS and always wound up staying over night in Copenhagen.
the sas hotel was across the street from Tivoli Gardens.

Before the playoffs started, there was a female sports personality who picked the Canes to win the Cup and Jackson Blake to win the Conn Smythe.

I only mention it was a female because that might help someone dig up that prediction. When some other pundits were reviewing the list of predictions, they called out her prediction and her selection of Jackson Blake.

On ticket prices....

As JB just noted above, the BASE PRICE OF THE TICKETS for the Conference finals is much higher than the first 2 rounds. It's not like the Canes are breaking new ground here...and I was looking at prices in Vegas versus our prices for Round 3 and they are pretty similar, with the more premium seats tagged with even higher prices in Vegas.

As for the resale market, there are LOTS of resale tickets available for Games 1 and 2. Having had to move some playoff tickets myself over the past 3 seasons (and having to move my Round 3 Game 5 tickets this season), the playoff resales all follow a similar pattern:

* Lots of resales available multiple days before the game. Most people shoot for a Home Run price on their tickets. Some of these are not actual people of course, they are ticket brokers.
* As the game gets closer, those who really need to sell their tickets start to lower their prices...down...down...down.
* Suddenly your home run price looks outrageous, and you are forced to follow the downward trend.
* At some point in the morning of the game, the floodgates open and everyone who needs to sell are cratering their prices to be the 'best deal available'
* By the time you are 1 hour from gametime, the resales left are all people who were not really paying attention and left their prices too high for too long or people who actually didn't need to sell, but were willing to cash in if someone wanted to pay a crazy premium.

All that said, you are not getting into the building for under $270 a ticket, which was around the base Ticketmaster cost for the cheapest seat for the Conference Final games. At least 19k people are willing to pony up for the playoff tickets at the higher prices. Yes, it's a lot of money, but this market has a whole lot of money to spend. The resale prices out there right now are NOT out of bounds by any means. But they also are going to fall quite a bit in the next 24 hours for tomorrow's game...and Saturday's will follow that same trend eventually

One more thing that actually might influence the resale market a bit this time around....for the first time the Canes are offering STMs buybacks for your playoff tickets this round....as late as 4 hours before gametime. Having that fallback could allow for some STMs looking to sell their conference final tickets at a premium some extra time to leave their asking price higher.

One thing the digital resale market has done is to strip the narratives about street resale pricing (aka the scalper pricing) of their often fictional storylines. “Tickets were selling for 10 times face value” … that’s the kind of crap a standup local news reporter would typically spew from the parking lot before a big playoff game after having talked to one person they at least suspected of being a scalper and/or one rube who probably just lied about what he paid for his tickets. Now, any idiot* can dial up an app or webpage in seconds and see what the market actually looks like.

*like me. It took me 30 seconds to look at Seat Geek and see the market pricing for Game 1

Also, as CM notes … the whole thing about the ticket price ladder for the NHL playoffs is basically standardized around the league. Every single team ratchets up the seat price every round following roughly the same pattern. The variations all pretty much occur on the secondary market

My tickets in 325 went from $64 to $80 to $119 for this round. IIRC, some of the regular season games were priced around $70-75, so the first 2 rounds weren’t bad at all. If we make the final, my tickets jump to $219.

i just checked Ticketmaster for tomorrow and Saturday. The cheapest seat for tomorrow is $223 in section 314. For Saturday, it’s $309, in either section 329 or 317. They’re outliers though, the next lowest price is $345.
