The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

And we’ve yet to make a move other than GM and Mats. @CH1 needs to give us a great analogy using passive income.

Are you fucking kidding me right now. The analogy writes itself.

Former tech high flyer stumbles after disappointing quarter after quarter after quarter. Share price finally bottoms out.
Ticker gets booted from the S&P500.

Complete management overhaul ensues. Represents a substantial change in direction for the company which shortly benefits from a surprise court ruling that promises to accelerate the company's transformation.

Financial media remains skeptical while hedge funds quietly buy shares on the cheap.

Mitch tears in the handshake line are all that's missing.

The perfect palate cleanser for all the Mitch glazing and attempted "told ya so's" from the wider hockey world in the first three rounds would be him vanishing like a fart in the wind in a 4-5 game series loss against Carolina and crying his eyes out afterwards.

And then hopefully San Jose can really start their rise soon and make sure Vegas doesn't have such an easy ticket to the third round again for the foreseeable future.

3 assists in 4 games vs the first real team they played was a nice start.

if that continues in a finals loss, then the hockey world gonna be feeling a little dumb for ejaculating over his performance vs non playoffs teams.

and the same guys laughing at the leafs now for losing mitch will suddenly all be saying I TOLD YOU SO HE WAS A CHOKER.

Anaheim should get a bunch better too, there is a lot of young talent over there and Vegas was lucky to not see Dallas this year as well.

They reaped a lot of benefit on matchups from squeaking out their division title in spite of finishing with 14 fewer points than the next-worst division winner. If even one or two teams in their division can take a real step up, that immediately makes their path way harder going forward.

yeah it would really really suck for vegas to win because this is likely their last best chance. I know they've been trade wizards but i think they've come to the end of being able to free salary anywhere without losing actual important players.

they don't have enough cap to keep the team together next year - re-upping Dorofyev will eat up all their capspace, which means at least Andersson is gone.

and like the avs they're starting to age.

Eichel 30
Marner 29
Stone 34

Hertl 33
Dorofyev 26
Barbashev 31

Karlsson 34
Howden 28
Bowman 22

Dowd 36
Kolesar 29

Theodore 31
Hanifin 30

McNabb 36
Korczak 26

Hart 28
Hill 30
Schmid 26
Lindbom 23

they'll probably try to move Hertl and Hill to make some space but I don't know if they can upgrade on Hertl at C much for that money, and i don't know how many takers there'd be for Hill.
