Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

I doubt Montreal even entertains that.
It would have to be for way more than they offered for Knies.. not sure what Robertson's desire would be to stay in north of the border is, but if his intentions are not to stay in after the season, then i dont see it happening...
And Montreal doesnt strike me as an organization that would pay 1 player 16-17M like Robertson is going to get,

Im not sure what team out there wants to pay Robertson the 14+ he wants that also Robertson wants to go to.

Couple other things im assuming

Helly to Devils for the Nemec/Mercer/1st/Markstrom grab bag

Werenski Ducks?

Robertson is one of the best players in the league. In comparison to Kaprizov, $14-15 mill is fine, and probably the new normal. Its a 14% caphit which is about right. Less than Matthews/McDavid/Mackinnon and slightly more than Nylander/Pastrnak.

The Pastrnak deal is $14 mill under this years cap.

Dallas should just pay him and trim some of the non core things into futures. I dont understand they can have their no one more than Rantanen policy knowing Robertson was expiring so quickly after

Why wouldnt montreal do it?

Looking at the contract situation you have 1 notable RFA this year and then Demidov next year.

Majority of the D is locked in long term, same with your high skill forwards.

Gally is dead and Anderson wouldnt be opposed to a move to the States for tax reasons.

Right now actually appears to be a very good time cap wise to take a run at a high priced long term piece.

I think Dallas will end up signing him. hard to get better when you're moving the top player at a given position..

It would cost us 15 million to match the take-home pay.

It would not. It's way more complicated than most people think. It would cost us around 13ish to match the take home on a Texas 12, if we couldn't bonus tax fuck our way through it because it was a trade instead of a UFA signing.

The difference per player isnt that huge. It's a nice bump for them of course but not as much as most people think. The real beneficiary is the team tbh, 104 million in a no state tax jurisdiction has the same market impact as like 114 in Canada or a higher tax state.

...and then you have to still sign his brother.

Nice idea, sounds expensive.
