OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Dude just needs this season to be over so he can put it behind him. Guys who have been excellent at this one thing they've used to define themselves their entire lives aren't really equipped to deal with struggling at that one thing.

certainly, and I am very far from a Vladdy Hater, in fact it's the opposite, love the guy... but this is a seriously clueless and stupid thing for him to say.

I was thinking the same thing, and then was like, these guys are completely uneducated and someone probably told him that he got the contract because he earned it, and he interpreted that to mean that it is supposed to pay for past performance rather than future.

I just hope he knows better than that instinctively and isn't falling back on that and thinking this kind of shit season is acceptable. He single-handedly cost us the playoffs. No way that Real Vladdy doesn't make up the current gap between us and the wildcard.
 
Yikes. Also not a Vladdy hater, but that kind of outlook just gives fuel to the people claiming that he’s packed it in now that he’s gotten paid.

And at the same time, this is also chickens coming home to roost for Shapiro, Atkins & Rogers. They spent most of Vlad’s prime nickel & diming him as hard and for as long as they possibly could instead of just locking him up long-term.

So I honestly can’t blame Vlad for bending them over when he finally had the leverage to do so, or for viewing that deal essentially as back-pay for work he’s already done. But still probably would’ve been smarter for him to keep that viewpoint private & off-camera.
 
Good news is, when we have to extend him on his next deal, we will pay him squat for this current performance, which is of course what the next deal would cover, this current period.

Oh shit, I forgot he'll be 63 years old when the current deal expires.

And it will all be forgotten if he's regular Vladdy by next June.

He doesn't know how to cope with being bad at the only thing that makes him exceptional and he's saying dumb shit to soothe his ego.

Not defending it, just explaining what it is. A defence mechanism from a young man living with real criticism for the first time and he doesn't know what to do about it.
