We'll find out soon if Manny's first 1100 AB's were who he is or if he was just warming up and took a big leap in 2015. He is only 23... so maybe he takes another step forward.
Yep, he might be a 2.13 guy....or may regress slightly....or may still take a step forward, but in all likelihood he wont match/surpass Donaldson for a good 3-4 years, and likely never has a season like JD just had.
He also comes with some risk, given hes already had surgeries on both of his kness.
....ultimately tho im hoping for a 2.0-2.2 third baseman for the next 7-8 years, instead of the higher upside 2.2-2.5 JD is liable to have for the next 4-5 years
Agree that his team took a short term step back, essentially JD + EE for Manny.
Yeah; I think people sleep on just how valuable a bat like EE is....having Goldschmidt is great, but with regard to losing EE, it means nothing because I had
both in my lineup last year. It's not like PG is replacing him....it's just flat out lost point production from my lineup, that I now have to compensate for.
...and given how easily guys like Pujols, Bautista, Ortiz etc have continued to produce well into their mid-late thirty's; I think its a safe bet EE has quite a few years of elite production still in him.
If he's coming off a 2.2+ season 3 or 4 years from now, I won't be remotely surprised.
Plus, he just added Tanaka to his already absolutely insane rotation, so he'll probably be just fine.
I'm happy to have added Tanaka, but since I dealt Shields it's a relative wash points wise. On the whole, I'm looking at a significant net loss of points, this offseason. While (hopefully) having fortified my future a bit.
I appreciate Axls optimism......but if this deal ends up costing me the title & ~$500....I won't care too much how young Machado is, haha.
End of the day; anyone who felt they had a shot at the podium this year, should be excited......because their chances to win it all, just got significantly better this year & next.....no one moreso than Bull.
