Checkers this past week:

Feb 1 Providence L 2-1(OT) Ned with the loss. Gauthier with the goal
Feb 2 Providence L 1-0(OT) Darling with the tough luck loss.

4 game week for the Checkers. Tue/Wed Home vs. Cleveland and then Sat/Sun at Hershey. They are still 12 points ahead of 2nd place Bridgeport.

Bit of a rocky week last week for the Checkers:

Feb 5 Cleveland W 3-1. Ned with the win. Didier, Saarela and Geekie with the goals
Feb 6 Cleveland L 5-1. Darling with the loss. Schilkey with the goal. This was possibly Darling's last game in the organization? Maybe as a pro?
Feb 9 @Hershey L 3-2 (SHO Loss). Ned with the Loss. Bean and Brown with the goals. Shootout went 5 rounds, Geekie, Necas, Schilkey, Saarela and Kuokkaen all failed to score
Feb 10 @Hershey L 2-1 Ned with the loss. Roy with the goal

3 game weekend roadie this week. Fri @Springfield, Sat @Providence and Sun @Bridgeport. 9 points is their cushion now over still 2nd place Bridgeport.

Elite Prospects is showing LaFontaine as a University of Minnesota commit for next season. So I guess he gave up on Michigan or they gave up on him.

They were up 3-1 today and gave up 6 unanswered goals in the last 30ish minutes of the game, 1 was an empty netter. Ho-sang had a 3rd period hat trick.

We haven't spent a lot of time talking about Jake Bean, but he is having a great first year as a pro. 54 games, 10 goals, 23 assists and +6 for the Checkers. He is raw for sure and probably needs at least another full AHL season to develop, but the Canes really have depth in the system that is the envy of the the NHL. To have the 6 NHL Dmen we have on the current roster and also have Fleury, Bean and Adam Fox in the system should allow the Canes to be creative in the offseason trade market. We really do have a bunch of options.

Yeah ... I've heard more than a few Canes fans talk about how they'd like to see Bean up with the big club, but while I'm encouraged that he's finding some traction in the A, I do think he needs more time in the oven. I base that on what I saw from him in pre season as well as how he looked in his callup. But yeah ... this time last year I wasn't sold on him at ALL, and now he looks like he could at least have a TVR-level impact. That's nothing to sneeze at.

I've gotta say that I'm concerned about Fleury though. Just the general vibe I get from the organization regarding him doesn't flood one with hope.

Despite winning both of their games, the lead is now down to 6 as Bridgeport won all 3 of their games last week (Checkers now have a game in hand).

2 games at home this week, Binghamton on Friday and Saturday.
