2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

I thought it was bi-weekly, if it’s monthly, why bother anymore? My father was a charter subscriber and still has the first issue laying around his house somewhere. I started subscribing in college, with the ridiculous college discounts for a school year subscription and then subscribed for most of the first 25 years after graduation. I gave them one last shot a few years ago and it had become so ridiculously thin, it wasn’t worth it anymore. The only benefit was getting access to their premium web content.
I started to notice at home that I was hardly ever getting an issue of SI in the middle of a 2 year subscription...and I especially noticed in February when the beloved Swimsuit issue was never sent...I thought maybe the postal gang was enjoying it in the breakroom...so I called and was shocked at the changes you mention. It's basically went from a 52 week issue to a 15 issue subscription now...basically 11 months of a regular monthly magazine with 4 special issues for the MLB preview, NFL preview, etc. They did not even have the stones to notify the subscriber base with those changes...and the call center gang in India was not even clear on the months that those special issues are sent out...

Tiger King is a good Netflix show. 7 episodes but each one is around 45 mins.
If by "good" you mean "insane" then yes. It's impossible to look away, even though you want to.

We finished up "The English Game" last night ... it's really well done. Julien Fellowes makes pretty TV shows, even if he plays fast and loose with the historical details sometimes.

We’re working our way through Homeland on Hulu. Almost through season 5. Season 3 of Ozark is up next, might knock that out over the weekend.

Carolina tiger rescue in Pittsboro is good to visit once the virus issue is over. You have to stand back around 8 feet . Or else you might get pissed on. I saw how far they can spray when I visited there. They have other big cats along with tigers.

Sidd Finch story was 35 years ago for April Fools. I admit I bought it hook, line and sinker.

Watched Monty Python's Holy Grail last night. Funny even w/o many, many bong hits!

I watched it a few years ago and didn’t think it held up.

One I’d like to revisit is The Kentucky Fried Movie, which was less a movie and more a series of unconnected skits.

Yeah, enjoy the "Modern Day Thrill-seeker" bit.

Today is the 45th anniversary of its release, according to a John Cleese tweet. But it isn’t, IMDB says it was released in LA on March 14, London on April 9, New York on April 28.

Makes me feel old. Again.

Read somewhere recently that bands like Zeppelin and Pink Floyd put up $$ for it to be made.

Eric Idle's last book went into a lot of details about the fundraising for the Python films. It's an interesting read.

Which is where a Hyundai dealership has their overflow lot and it’s also used for a park/ride lot during the State Fair.
