2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

I took the kid up to Asheville this past Saturday for the Acid Bath show at Hellbender, the newest outdoor amphitheater that in that fine city. It's a fine venue with a fair amount of trees at the back and along merch/food truck row to provide shade on a hot, sunny day. Not quite enough bathrooms, but at my age, no venue has enough bathrooms for my convenience. The sound was good enough, but again, at my age, everything sounds OK to me since I'm not deaf yet.

If you ever buy tickets to see a band there, here's my two words of advice for arriving and leaving the venue: BE PATIENT. Seriously, it's kind of a shitshow getting in and out since the surrounding streets can't really handle that much traffic. Even taking an Uber from a nearby hotel took an eternity. There's no need to complain because it is what it is, just plan for the long ass time that you will be spending in the car getting in and out. Just be patient.

Oh yeah, Asheville makes the venue shut the music off at 10pm, so you'll have plenty of nightlife remaining in Asheville *once you get out of the traffic trap*. Apparently Dinosaur Jr was in the middle of a song when the PA just got shut down. LOL

And I thought the 11 pm curfew in Raleigh was draconian. For Red Hat and Walnut Creek, I understand, but at Lenovo Center? Not so much.

There are apartments right next to the venue
IMO it's a really dumb location for an outdoor music venue for that and a hundred other reasons. The good people at the Orange Peel run the thing and they obviously know what they're doing, but I have serious doubts about viability with the Hellbender.

An I the only one getting these annoying half and full page ads overwhelming the site recently? I doing even want to click on the site anymore. I don’t know what the hell they did but it stinks

I would never do this, but word on the street has it that the uBlock Origin browser extension works great in blocking ads on web sites.

A slightly more shielded browser like DuckDuckGo works for some people. I remember that being a popular fix the last time the pop-up ads got bad.

Or they can stop with the 3500 pixel ads. I mean Jesus. I shouldn’t have to try 17 different browsers… Firefox and chrome have worked perfectly for a decade except on this site. I have built multiple websites and forums so I know it can be fixed. They choose not too and It’s annoying

Well I’m not installing yet another browser for the one site that has this problem. I visit a billion sites but this is the only one with issues. If it keeps up I will just go somewhere else. I’m sure some of you will like that 🤣

This is what I see all the time for what it’s worth. The entire screen is a constant scrolling ad

That is downright unacceptable. Well, I use the uBlock Origin browser extension and I don't see a single ad on this site and now because of what you are experiencing, I don't feel bad about. And this is why people steal shit on the internet.

I use Chrome and don't have any problems with ads covering the page.
I’m using chrome and Firefox among others on my phone…. This is on my phone not laptop. Have not checked it recently on my laptop. It just started about a month ago. Normally just get the standard ad banner at the top of the page, which is perfectly fine, but it recently starting doing this Crap

Ohhhhhhh!! Yeah, try using the Brave web browser on your phone. That's the only browser that I can stand to use when getting to actual websites on my phone. Otherwise, yeah, it's all ads.
