2021 Hurricanes Miscellaneous Thread

Hakenpaa needs to be better tomorrow night. Not expecting Lidstrom out there but he made a number of big errors with the puck and with his positioning. I’m sure it didn’t go unnoticed
Some of that was on Bean not being effective in helping him out. He's got to be better about getting to spaces where his partner can find him under pressure.

The first goal on the PK, he was behind Point and didn’t lift his stick. But he and Bean still struggle too much 5 on 5.

Yeah ... it's a pairing that works, but they aren't real natural together. Bean adds enough as a puck mover that it makes up for some deficiencies other wise, and to be fair ... there's a lot of dreck out there on 3rd pairings, even on playoff teams. I'll take 'em.

Like Montreal rarely put out their 3rd pair.

Heck ... Tampa's third pair tonight is fixing to be Luke Schenn and Freddie Claesson, so ... yeah. We're fine.
Does Tampa actually play their 3d pair as a pair? Every time Schenn or Rutta was out there on Tuesday night, they were usually paired with one of the top 3–Hedman, McDonough or Sergachev. That’s how Cooper hides them.

That's a great point. Cheno might think about this with Beaner.

Cooper rides Hedman, McDonough and Sergachev and pairs the other guys with them as needed. It's a way to go when you have three do-it-all types of that calibre and three grunts. Carolina prefers to load up two heavy pairings and ride out 3rd pair shifts with the leftovers. And that's fine too. Both approaches have been successful

Game 5 on Tuesday is set for 6:30 on NBCSN. That allows game 5 of Colorado/Vegas to go at 9.

And forces me to eat at the arena again, which is bothersome. Otherwise, I'll be happy with an earlier finish time ... presuming ... well, you know.

My concern is less about him coaching another NHL team and more about him deciding to do THAT full time.

Nino on the ice for practice today in a regular jersey. Trocheck and Foefeel are missing.
I wouldn't read too much into any of that. Foegele's got a shoulder problem that he can clearly play through if needed, but there's nothing to be gained by making him practice. Trocheck's touch and go and again, practice time is a non-issue. Nino apparently has some sort of arm/wrist/appendage issue so taking some ice time to prove he can hold a stick and stuff is helpful.

Foefeel played nearly 14:30 on Saturday but didn’t attempt a shot. So i agree that not practicing is a non issue for him. But Trocheck’s absence means he’s almost definitely out again tomorrow, while Nino in a regular jersey means he’s at least a game time decision.

RBA is hopeful that Nino can go tomorrow, Trocheck and Foefeel are game time decisions, although I don’t see how Trocheck can play without at least skating. No decision on a goalie but, after Mrazek’s collapse on Saturday, I don’t see how it won’t be Ned.

Edit: Ned was in the starter’s crease at practice.

I don't want to speculate too much, but that could have been the last game Mr Azek plays in a Hurricanes uniform. I'd call it less than 50/50 on his chances to re-sign, given the injuries of the past two seasons and how he bounced back from them ... or more accurately, didn't. That said, the last two seasons were surpassingly strange, and I wouldn't hold my breath on anything at this point.

I'm going much less than 50/50 on the Mrazek re-sign. Especially if he is going to go looking for $3 million per+ for more than one season. He's going to find someone willing to give him a few years of term and an opportunity to be a 1b. I don't think the Canes are going to be near top bid for his services in the offseason. No idea who the 1B to Ned will be, but I don't expect it to be Reimer or Mrazek unless either of them are so darn happy here that they tell their agent to take 1 year $2 million from the Canes.

I could see Reimer agreeing to that contract. He just turned 33, no one is going to pay him starter’s money and he has to know that he’s not going to get a starter’s spot anywhere.
