Pretty much what we ran this season, three goalies used on need and availability. You'd need a strong No. 3, given Kochetkov's inexperience and Raanta's fragility. It's do-able but tricky.
Yeah, but it's got to come down to how he scouted at the OHL level and if the Canes think he'll grow into his game over time.Montgomery is also a right shot, something in short supply in the organization.
True. And he didnāt get a draft year season in the OHL because of the pandemic. The Canes found him at an OHL showcase. He looks like a stay at home guy, his offensive numbers donāt jump off the page. But well over 1 PIM per game in his last 2 years.Yeah, but it's got to come down to how he scouted at the OHL level and if the Canes think he'll grow into his game over time.
Montgomery was the overager, odd man out in London once they acquired future NHL first round pick defenseman Sam Dickinson in London and reinstated Logan Mailloux to bolster their backend, the Knights are two wins away from the OHL final, so other than the physical presence he brought, he was not a very effective OHL player. I cannot see the Canes being that enchanted with him moving forward.Montgomery is also a right shot, something in short supply in the organization.
I hope he continues to improve his skating a bit. The Canes org chart could really use a homegrown thumper at LD.Cade Webber was named an alternate captain for next season at Boston University.
Canāt we work out some deal to send our top prospects to the Coyotes for development? Or is their arena too small?Inside AHL Hockey has a 32 thoughts column and the first 10 are on the Canes/Wolves divorce. Weāve discussed the āveteranā rule before, where a team may only dress 6 players with more than 260 games of pro experience. But the league also has a rookie rule. A team has to have 4 rookies in the lineup every night. A rookie is defined as a player with less than 64 games of pro experience. If they donāt have 4 rookies in the lineup, itās a forfeit.

Coyotes only take players as a last resort, theyāre mostly interested in taking contracts.Canāt we work out some deal to send our top prospects to the Coyotes for development? Or is their arena too small?
In short, the Wolves care more about competing for the Calder Cup than they do about anything else. Carolina had a down year in terms of the quality of prospects available and it sounds like they sparred a bit about adding AHL vets ... although the Canes eventually did spend a lot of money on that kind of player. Bottom line ... there's a reason that Chicago shuffles through NHL affiliates like a Vegas blackjack dealer. They're never happy for long, and never happy unless they're winning. And honestly, the NHL clubs have other things on their minds.I missed what the beef is between the Wolves and the Canes. No playoff money to be had this year?
The Wirtz family owns the Blackhawks and the IceHogs so there would be nothing at all simple about that ... aside from mascot synchronicity of courseEasy fix would be for the Blackhawks to sign with the Wolves and have the Canes move to the Rockford IceHogs.
