2022-23 Canes Misc. Thread

Yr next man up, young Jack Drury! Let's see what you're made of.

RIP to all of us watching the games on TV because about 75% of the game call will be Tripp's anecdotes about knowing Jack all his life

Wouldn't it be nice if there was somebody (anybody!) who could get in his ear and tell him to knock that crap off?

I mean, yes ... but if you look at it in terms of man-games lost then Carolina hasn't had that bad a year injury-wise.
Man games lost overall no, but I would consider losing three pretty solid forwards in Patches/Svech/Kase off your starting 12 up front to be pretty shitty and unlucky when they are all now looking like season ending injuries with no playoff availability.

There are only 6 guys that have played all 65 games. Turbo missed 10, Aho missed 7, Slavin missed 6. But Patches…

I'm not saying that they haven't had injuries ... I'm saying they haven't had Colorado's injuries, basically. Also, call me when any team gets through a season without 4-5 of those 5-10 game chunks missed from key players. That's 100% expected stuff. Patches being out sucks. Svech getting hurt sucks. Kase was always a long shot to play a significant role even if he managed to stay remotely healthy. Every season has its injury risks and this one has been on the sucky side for sure ... but I'm pretty sure the team won't pack it in. Nor should they.

Speaking of Colorado…Artturi Lehkonen will miss 4-6 weeks with a broken finger suffered last night.

This is not just a this season issue for them either. By my recollection this is three years in a row where they've been a triage ward.

Here’s my frustration with GMDW— he signed three vets in the off season and only 1 has played. Kase was one hit away from being put on the shelf and guess what!? Pacioretty was a risky move given age and the fact he had not played anywhere close to a full season in two years. Then, the trade deadline approaches and there’s no big acquisition to even try to act as a safety net and to shore up our one glaring issue- scoring, yet teams around us did make some very real moves. Once the trade deadline passed, the Canes were at the hands of fate and what’s in the AHL.

You left out the third one ... and Burns is on the fringes of the Norris conversation. That's the nature of the risk/reward play ... sometimes you get the prize, sometimes not. And let's not act like Waddell makes these decisions in a vacuum. At the end of the day if you're frustrated then it's with Dundon, because this whole player acquisition system is more his baby than anyone else's.

And again, for clarity ... yes, it sucks that Patches didn't get a real chance and that Svech got hurt. I would have liked to have added a proper forward at the deadline also. I just don't think we have a big picture problem here. The team structure is sound, has been successful and is sustainable. I'm having a hard time complaining too much about that.

Svech saying "Sorry Don" as he's getting imaged. This room got awfully dusty all of a sudden!
