2022-23 Season Thread

And yeah this is an interesting draft, there is a clear top 3 but there are NHL people who have one of the d-men at #2, so top 4 gets you a damn good prospect ... in a year where there is no consensus #1 or 2 lol.

There's no perfect system ... we tried a few and this was voted in, seems to work well enough. Implemented to discourage tanking. It's just totally random, you throw the names and odds into a random generator and it spits out a winner.
I get it but it seems skewed. The discrepancy between last and second last is typically less than the discrepancy between second last and fourth yet that's not reflected in the percentages. Seems to me you're really giving teams out of the bottom 3 far too much chance to get first overall.

Also, the NHL has a maximum jump number.

Something to consider for next season.

I'll get stuck with the best D man. Again.

Every year

There was a lengthy discussion and a vote though. A lot of people wanted it this way. And I think it does make sense, if the odds are too good for the worst 1 or 2 teams, it just encourages the worst kind of tanking (where the team that finishes last isn't necessarily the worst team, just the best tanker). We have this and the top-up rule to counteract.

It also prevents legit teams from getting better.

Your philosophy is guilty until proven innocent based.

Now explain to me why Jonas‘ old team is even involved?

You see the argument here about an abandoned team right? Obviously it finishes last. Abandoned teams should receive last pick, not first.

The draft percentages are onerous to tanking yet the tank is supported by this system. I don’t reconcile this in my head. It’s incongruous.

We had plenty of tanking before. And it fucking sucks, believe me.

And that is what we are saying. An abandoned team will finish last, but that doesn't mean it's the worst team. So it actually had worse odds in the lottery than it would otherwise have been, no? The lotto is fair, and there's just too much randomness involved anyway. Who's to say what the difference between Slavkovsky and Cooley is. There is zero guarantee #2 is any better than #3.

Which is why it’s a stupid system that overprotects one concern and ignores another. I took over a shit team. No draft or dispersal to give you guys an even number. Since then I’ve seen numerous new owners come in with much better chances to build a team then they get pick after pick because of an abandoned team.

Not going to agree to this anymore. Fair is fair dude.

I really don't want to be a dick about this. However, you made 5 add/drops post draft last year. And zero trades post draft. I mean, that doesn't look like someone that is trying to improve his team. This is a competitive league. You cannot win by drafting 5-6 players and making a couple of trades around the draft. I know everyone has a different amount of time they are willing/able to put into this, and that's fine. But if you put in zero effort, you're going to be praying for the top pick every.single.year. There's no amount of lotto magic that will save you from being awful.

Irrelevant to my point. I’ve also been going through a divorce so there’s that. I won’t say fuck you because you didn’t know but never straw man shit.

The system is highly flawed. Take my team then. Don’t need this shit. I’m voicing a concern and you’re ignoring it because you can’t think of a solution.

Will this be addressed or not?

As for add/drops. There’s never anyone better available. It’s a deep league and you know it.

Just to make a counter point... I acquired Jonas's 1sts well before he abandoned his team and it was with the eye that he was notorious for rebuilding every 2 years and assumed atleast 1 of the firsts would be a top 5 pick.

I got what I expected out of the trade.

Habsy I've read your posts several times, and I guess I just don't understand what you are arguing. We had a vote on this, and this was the system that was chosen. There is no perfect system. Many leagues, real or fantasy, have a lottery. Sometimes you get presto-luck (cough, you, last year), and sometimes you don't.

If anyone wants to change a rule, start a thread about it.

Understood. I wasn’t talking of this year. It does seem that people just want to ignore it and kick the can down the road though.

An abandoned team should not be allowed to retain a high pick. I should just abandon my team and let someone else get Bedard then.

Thought we were discussing it right now?

Easier to just go. Not worth the aggravation. Enjoy Makar. I think it’s lazy personally. It doesn’t work.

I'll make that trade but I don't have zaitsev anymore (this is a joke)

Your lottery is skewed for an irrational fear of tanking. It’s a paid league, a team owner can do what he wants.

Then you reward abandonment and shrug shoulders and point to lottery. Tired of going around in circles. It needs addressed.
