2024-25 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

If you refresh the page, at least for a second the original price was $40 crossed out with $20 the sale price. Then the original price changes to $20.

Seriously, I would only consider wearing that shirt for dirty outdoor work...so anything over $5 bucks is a no sale for me.

If they told me the money was being used to reimburse the org for his plane ticket. I’d ‘donate’

OK, so the Canes have a few days to practice and catch their breath before heading out west. Good time to look at the standings.

Barring a seismic shift, 1 through 3 in the Metro looks pretty much set. Washington has run away and hid with the top spot, the Canes have carved out an 8 point lead on the Devils (with a game in hand) and despite their injuries the evils still have a 6 point cushion on the Rangers. Speaking of the Rangers, they're in that wildcard mosh pit and seem unable to do more than slog along at NHL .500 so that mess might come down to the last few games. You'd think they would be able to leg out the 8th spot over the likes of Montreal, Columbus and Detroit but nothing is given this season.

In the Atlantic, the top 4 look pretty locked in, but the order is up in the air. Ottawa has crept to within 4 points of 3rd place and probably a lock for a wildcard at a minimum. I wouldn't venture to guess how the top 3 will play out, as Florida, Tampa and Toronto all have enough juice to have a hot stretch ... like they all have enough flaws to have a cold stretch.

Either way, Carolina's early path looks pretty well settled. They're all but locked in to a 1st round tilt with the Devils followed by a 2nd rounder with Washington or whatever wildcard team has upset Washington. For all the chatter over the last few weeks, that's about what you would have predicted back in January. Weird, huh?

As for the West, other than the last wildcard slot it looks like it's mostly down to jostling for position. The top 6 in the West looks likely enough, but after that there's a layer of dreck and several teams that threw in the towel at the deadline (or sooner) are in the mix ... including a couple of teams that just aren't any good. Looking at you Calgary and St Louis. Plus, aside from Colorado, most of the darlings of the power rankings crowd are either stuck in neutral or close to it. Meanwhile the under-heralded Jets just keep plugging away in a two team Presidents Trophy race with the also under-sung Capitals. Weird year out West.

The boys practiced today and are also scheduled to practice tomorrow and Wednesday before they jump on the plane to San Jose. Svech skated with Daniels before practice. I didn’t see anyone tweet about Orlov. Slavin, KK, Blake and Roslovic also didn’t skate. Both goalies practiced.

Hall - Aho - Jarvis
Martinook - Staal - Stankoven
Robinson - Jankowski - Jost

Gostisbehere - Chatfield
Walker - Morrow
Burns

The team is practicing ahead of the flight to San Jose. Svech is in a yellow sweater, Orlov is in a regular one.

Jarvis - Aho - Blake
Hall - Kotkaniemi - Roslovic
Martinook - Staal - Stankoven
Robinson - Jankowski - Jost (Svechnikov)

Slavin - Burns
Gostisbehere - Orlov
Chatfield - Walker

For anyone keeping track, the Canes magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 14. The Isles and Jackets max out at 100 points and the Canes are at 86. The tiebreaker falls to the Canes, as they hold a 11 RW advantage on the Isles and 13 on Columbus.

I keep hearing that the Hurricanes may make a strong play for Mitch Marner when the UFA season begins. Thoughts on him? Would you want to pay him $14 million a season?

Well, what we know is that they've made two runs at Marner when it looked like he might be on the market. It's debatable whether or not that means they'll make a run at him on the open market when the cost can and probably will get out of control.

Now, I also seem to recall that I'm one of the few around here to consider him an elite player, so ... there's that. Somebody is going to pay him Draisaitl money. Maybe it will be the Canes, maybe not. But somebody will.

Yeah, he’s elite. But does he fill a hole that needs filling for the Canes? Or is he Teravainen with a few more goals per season than Turbo provided? And is he worth $14 million to this team?
