2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

No official word but all indications are, yes. We've been resting 1 forward (Hall, Staal, Martinook) a game for a while now, wouldn't surprise me if it were 4 resting and maybe also a D on Wednesday. Would need to call up a couple replacements to make that happen though; not that many healthy scratches right now but we'll see if that happens tomorrow.
As (I did at least) expected, callups on the way (meeting us in MTL?):

Yeah, no shock there. There are some extra bodies in Chicago anyway, and the Canes are absolutely in "don't do anything stupid" mode. These last two games will look a lot like the last game in the regular season last year.

I'm seeing more and more skepticism online that Nikishin will get his visas sorted in time to join the Canes in Canada, so the focus there is shifting towards getting him a couple of games with the Wolves. Makes sense, as it's past midday on Tuesday and he'd have needed to be on a plane this afternoon to have any chance to meet the team in Montreal. Also, with the timing, I'd say his chances of playing in the playoffs ride exclusively on the health of the Top 6 ... specifically, Ghost's back. If Ghost can't go or is limited, THEN you might think about taking a swing with Boom on the third pair. If for no other reason than it would be ridiculous to go into the post season with Burns on PP1 knowing full well how futile that would be.

This sucks. Red tape BS

The Caps signed Nic Dowd to a 2 year/$3 million AAV extension. He had career highs in goals and games played this season.

Artemi Panarin and Madison Square Garden Sports, which owns the Rangers, reached a financial settlement last year with a former Rangers employee that claimed Panarin sexually assaulted her. It allegedly happened in December 2023 on a Rangers road trip. The woman was a member of the team’s traveling party. Panarin took her phone and told her she could retrieve it in his room. When she went to the room, Panarin allegedly pinned her down on the bed before she pushed him off. She left the team in August 2024 after the settlements were reached. She signed a NDA and neither Panarin or the team admitted guilt.

Dowd has had a nice late career bump in Washington. He's been very good for 3 out of the past 4 seasons. Pretty nice for a guy they literally grabbed off of the discard pile.

The fact that this leaked is ... interesting. Maybe Dolan is going to be more active in the Rangers' off season than I thought, because leaking dirt on your own team as a prelude to making changes is 100% in his playbook.

This is just the next salvo in what I expect to be an offseason filled with tabloid level fodder surrounding the Rangers.

There is this newly leaked story about Panerin assaulting a female employee of MSG

Calvin de Hann is out there looking to do a full complaint session with the media on how he was treated by the Rangers.

Laviolette stated he doesn't even go into the locker room after games anymore.

Chris Drury already is going to have to answer for:

The way Jacob Trouba was treated (although in the end, getting Anaheim to take his fully contract was brilliant)

The Kappo Kakko trade (50 points a season pace for Seattle)

Then there are the players, some who seemed basically disinterested. Alex Lafraniere (45 points, -13) has his new extension kicking in NEXT season (7 years $7.45 million AAV). Mika Zibanejad (18 goals, -25) has 5 more seasons at an $8.5 million AAV.

Their defense is a porous mess.

The ages of their top 5 forwards? 33, 31, 32, 33, 31.

It will be interesting to see how the Rangers approach the offseason and how significant the changes they make are (and WHO actually is in charge of making those changes). I expect there to be a full coaching and GM house cleaning.

Kreider has 2 more years at $6.5 million too. But Rangers fans have already written him off.

Look. The Rangers are and generally always will be a circus. And, frankly, especially since we're in their Division, I'm here for it.
