Loved seeing it. At one point I thought it was going to get street fight ugly but that moment passed and good old hard fighting, tough, highly skilled hockey ensued. Who’da thunk it
Yeah, never bury 'em until they're dead dead. The Oilers were only mostly dead.
Seriously, I was as surprised as anybody with that 2nd period even from a team like Edmonton that can score in bunches on anybody. The vibes were definitely funerial and they had just perfectly replicated the horrible play that got them in that hole in the first place. Bad, obvious penalties, whiffy goal tending, general lifelessness in transition ... all culminating in a 3-0 deficit. They had exactly nothing to like after 1. And then they found the switch. Maybe McDavid melted the dressing room again, maybe they finally remembered who they were, maybe they found a way to break the trap that they hadn't seen up to then, maybe Florida just made enough mistakes to open the door. I dunno, but the Oilers are the kind of team that can ride a period like they had in the 2nd for a good week or so. Mo should be concerned.

Yeah. NFL fans thought their broadcasts fawned over Taylor Swift too much and then we got whatever the heck was going on with those three older white men last night. Holy crap guys. Get yourselves in check. And for the record, I do not care one way or the other about Swift or her boyfriends, but the creep factor broke the gauge last night. I had flashbacks to Al Michaels drooling over coeds.

I heard that Bob Euker used to make some really obscene comments about women during his broadcasts but would always hit the cough button for it. So it be something like, “Slow roller to third” (cough button) “right in front of that (something obscene) in the third row” (release cough button) “The throw to first. Got ‘em by a step!” He used to have the booth in stitches and nobody listening to the broadcast was any the wiser. A master at his craft. Unlike the bozos on TNT.

Yeah it was more of a distraction away from a great game if nothing else, still trying to get over the shitshow when the Leafs thought it was a great idea in a game 7 in round two to place the Biebs behind the Leafs bench in a neon colored get up!

They basically have to, I think. Not like Skinner was bad in period 1, the Oilers were missing in action (other than taking penalties) in front of him and the Panthers had THIRTEEN high danger chances in the period. But something started working when Pickard came in, so you go with it. 7-0!

With Pickard in, the Oilers allowed 1.8 expected goals against over 51 minutes of gametime. With Skinner in they allowed just under 3 expected goals against in 20 minutes. Skinner really should have had that rebound that led to the 2nd Florida goal but nobody's stopping the 3rd one and the 1st was a nice shot through a screen. Tough to say he was bad, really. Meanwhile, his offensively gifted teammates had putzed around and managed to generate about half an expected goal in the first period ... which I honestly thought that was generous. Bob could have whipped out the kettle and brewed a nice pot of tea in the 1st period and still stopped anything troublesome.
I think they kind of have to go with Pickard for Game 5, but what they really have to do is play better in front of the guy and not take stupid, sloppy penalties.
