Detroit ships Vladimir Tarasenko off to the Wild for future considerations otherwise known as nothing!
Maybe Billy Guerin is hoping for some Russian magic beans with Tarasenko playing alongside Kaprizov???

Matias Maccelli to the Leafs for a conditional 3rd in 27. Maccelli carries a $3.425 million cap hit on the last year of his three year contract signed with Utah.

Panthers extended Ekblad, 8 years, $6.1 million AAV. That’s a substantial reduction from his last contract that had $7.5 million AAV. No details on the structure yet. The Panthers have $4.9 million in cap space with 18 players under contract, 11 forwards, 6 dmen and Bob.

$4.75 million for 33 points? Detroit should have also given up a pick or something in exchange for the Wild taking that millstone off their neck

No words, the rich get richer…Marchand next for a discount…

I mean ... guys like to win. I find nothing noteworthy about that.
Leaving a few million on the table is still noteworthy for many when you see the reaction around the league. The winning is key yes, but it sures show the true colors of some of these guys that will chase a Brinks truck over any winning org.

So much for the max AAV/short term smoke, but with Marner's camp there's always smoke for some reason. They love the drama I guess. Honestly, the AAV at $12 million is better than I thought Vegas was going to get, and much more in line with the market than some of what was floated. Now let's see what the return for Toronto looks like. Roy, presumably ... and maybe something else?

Oh, also ... welcome to a free agent market tomorrow where almost everybody has money and Nik Ehlers is the best available forward. Hoo boy, this could get weird.

2 old friends signed today.

Leafs sign Steven Lorentz, 3 years/$1.3 million AAV

Flames sign Clark Bishop, 1 year, 2 way, $775k NHL, $350k AHL, $375k guarantee

Jackets extend dman Ivan Provorov, 7 years/$8.5 million AAV

Marchand looks like he’s staying in Florida, rumors of a 6 year/~$32 million deal. That leaves work for Zito, he’ll be over the cap with 12 forwards, 6 dmen and Bob.

Here is the breakdown on Marner’s contract. There is a NMC for the entire length.

Yr 1 4M Base & 11M Signing Bonus
Yr 2 4M & 10M SB
Yr 3 4M & 9.75M SB
Yr 4 4M & 7.25M SB
Yr 5/6 5M & 6M SB
Yr 7/8 5M & 5M SB
