Maybe if we delete the other members of the core 4, we will do even better.Regular season team gets a bit worse without Marner, but it’s not the difference between winning the division and not making the playoffs.
Playoff team gets better. Pretty much anyone else getting 20+mins per game and all the powerplay time will outproduce Marner in elimination games. Kampf on PP1 and on Matthews’s wing probably does it. Addition by subtraction for the games that count IMO.
Why want to leave? If wanting to leave, why block trades? There’s no rational explanation.
I'd aim for a young guy. Who are the good up and coming scorers on ELCs that a team lacking on D might stupidly trade for Carlo?Ignoring cost, who is maybe likely available?
- Horvat and move Tavares to W?
- Kyrou was allegedly out there
- Buyers remorse in NJ with Meier?
- Zibanejad and move him to W
- Kadri and move JT to the W
- Anders Lee...but having back to back captains go to Toronto might be bad optics over there
- Trochek
- Rust
- Rakell
We're not. These older guys will cost too much and require firsts.I like the Horvat idea, but not sure how we're getting him
There is still time!Too bad Santa never brought him a Marlies jersey for Xmas.
I ideally want the ELC forward. The new JVR. Getting another Knies type when young in exchange for Carlo, before he comes off the ELC and is due his $8m. I feel like there are enough stupid GMs out there who would overvalue a still young RHD making peanuts for another two years and give up a young forward who may or may not be amazing. Obviously this is where our scouting needs to hit a home run though, in identifying that guy. It's pretty funny that after all those years of "too many high paid forwards!!!", the one thing we all clearly want right now is a high paid forward.
