2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Just saw a clip of tkachuk going through the handshake line vs Toronto and he was talking not all the guys “glad you’re feeling better” to stolarz “you’re a beast” to Matthews, “what a fuckin battle” to tanev, “miss you” to oel

To his former jr linemate Mitch “good series”

Lmao
So what you're saying is the leafs will get even MORE respect in the handshake line next year? Sweet

Could a team of Marner's beat a team of lions if the lions could skate?

Are the lion's lion sized or Marner sized? Are the Marner's also lion sized?

I feel like skating lion sized lions would have a massive advantage here, especially with playoff officiating the way it is.

I do think there's an element to Marner breaking over the years. I recall in one of the early bruins series, he was the best player in the series. Always dancing, speed through the neutral zone (where was that in the last couple of years?), fearless. Even the bruins players and coaching staff kept talking him up and they built their gameplan around stopping him. Granted, he did disappear late in the series as is tradition, but I feel like he never regained that form since.

He got given too much latitude here imo to play his way, and with Matthews on every shift. Auston's gravity opens up space that Mitch was happy to glide in. Defences got used to Mitch not shooting, so why force him when you know he'll just drift towards open space while looking to pass the puck?

Mitch with his feet moving is a force of nature but it's gotten more and more rare.

Let’s not forget at the end of game 1 or 2 when Tkachuk went after Marner at the buzzer clearly intending to do something dirty.

What is up with this dude that he’s so hated?

Wouldn't shock me if he started playing that way in Vegas again. Berube, late Keefe, and the personnel on d (especially in Keefe's last year) weren't helping matters. Mitch on the rush and in transition is where he was really special and could really break games open, especially in tight games.

Or maybe he's just a bitch that is destined to keep failing. I'll be rooting against him.

Half speculation but Mitch's dad was apparently the absolute worst on the knights. Some shit maybe happened there that tkachuk never forgot. He ran his mouth for a few years while he was on the leafs too before management had to tell him to stfu, this isn't junior.

I don't think Berube's style helped. But Mitch wanting to hold, hold, hold the puck while moving further and further away from the net predates Berube by a few years and I think is just baked into how Mitch wants to play the game.

I do expect to see him play faster in Vegas this year, but he'll slowly revert back to Mitch over time short of a coach continuously challenging him, and we all know how much he loves feedback from his coaches.

You're kidding, right?
I’m not. Like what could Tkachuk have against him that he’d want to take a run at him? It’s not like Marner would’ve done anything dirty to him that he was retaliating, so why go out of his way to try to hurt him at the end of a game?

I've been saying this for a long time....Mitch strikes me as pretty unlikeable whiny bitch.

So I would imagine that playing with him for a few years would be more than enough to lead to a desire to make him hurt. I'm going to bet that a few Leafs take...liberties...with him when we play Vegas eventually, for the same reason.

Marner has a very punchable face. And then he talks and it's like he wants to be punched in the face.

I mean, I would love that now. I just don’t understand how there’d be some general dislike of the guy leading people to openly hate him or try to hurt him. There’s so many other true shitheads in the league trying to injure people and we don’t see anyone seemingly care.

The worst part of this whole Marner situation is that he and Matty were joined at the hip, so I’m definitely more than a little concerned about what that says about Matty and what his future with us looks like.

Better hope the planets align for McDavid to land here and cure all that ails us.

Need a 3rd line that can actually score. The Engvalls, Holmbergs, Gregors just haven't taken any pressure off the top line. If Roy/Maccelli can produce on the 3rd line it would be a big step.

If McDavid ever came to Toronto, it would be for pajama boy reasons, to fulfill a childhood dream. It would not be to chase Cups. He knows better than that. If he leaves Edmonton to chase a championship, he's going to go where everyone else goes: to a tax free state where the resident teams can load up.
