2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

But he is still a 60 point center that plays the toughest competition with solid results and scored more goals in 43 gp in his last 3 playoff runs than Marner has in his entire 70 playoff game career.

No surprise here that he has JT as the best value singing if the number starts with 4 as rumored.

Bennett and Towes are the biggest buyers beware
Is toews going to cost more than league min with a couple bonuses?

I sorta view him as a risk free option unless the contract gets stupid with a NMC.

When marner walks if nothing is available on the trade market I wouldn't hate 1 or 2 vets on 1 yesr deals at a high price point. Giroux, patty Kane etc. Then have deadline cap space and flexibility next offseason.

There are a lot worse potential moves than overpaying Toews and Kane (or anyone else for that matter) for 1 year.

Next years free agent class is way better.

Yep.

The only moves I’d really be afraid of this summer are “running it back” by re-signing Marner, doing a Huberdeau-esque panic overpay of a substandard player in a desperate attempt to replace Mitch right away, or firing yet more futures out of a cannon to try and supplement this core.

Overpaying someone on a one-year deal on the other hand—fine. Whatever.

At the same time, I'm not really in the business of playing it safe or cautious this year. As long as Auston is at or near his prime, every year is a must win for me. Not to mention, their aging d is a day away from completely imploding and needing to be rebuilt.

So yeah, don't overpay for trash, but your goal has to be to build a cup winner this summer. I don't care how hard that will be. Figure it out. Get creative if you need to.
