Agreed, but the reports of Shea and other ideas shows that they were looking..in the early days it seems it was Vegas who said no.

Yeah, that’s fair I suppose.

Pretty clear that any GM being hired at that point had marching orders from Shanahan to keep the “Core-4” together and mortgage the future to the best of their abilities to try and make it work.
 
In defense of management, when the hell have we ever had any good player want to leave the team while we’ve been competitive, while they were already one of the highest paid players, where an extension was proposed that gave them yet another raise, and where they were a Toronto native?

I don’t think there’s any precedent for this with this franchise. It’s always that guys don’t want to leav, like Hyman and Kadri. Never, ever that they want to bolt. This has never happened before, which is why I was so confident it would never happen here.

I mean the contract is irrelevant. They already saw these guys lose the exact same way every year. It was clear as day the Core 4 would never win.

The willingness to be open about not resigning just makes the need for the move undeniable.

Yeah, that too makes me convinced that shit changed for him in the Boston series. Relationships with teammates got fucked, the room became toxic, the top guys all looked miserable, and the fucker decided to find new friends.

Yes, but the lack of contract would be relevant. He was overpaid his whole time here and they were offering to overpay him again. He didn’t have money as an excuse for leaving between the premium on the raw salary, the CAD exchange, and the endorsements. The fuck left money on the table to leave.
 
Mitch comes off looking like a dick of course. He didn’t want to be here and cock blocked their attempts to move him, when he had full control of his destination. Why not engineer a trade to somewhere you want to go? Was he worried it would sully his reputation? It’s tough to look any worse than he does now.
