I guess they either just have to get him to go along with an injury (doesn't seem likely he'd play ball) or just tell him they'll need to keep him on the Marlies all season. I don't think he even comes off the cap if he retires since he signed after 35? So I guess those are the only two options for next year. Easily one of the dumbest deals I've ever seen the Leafs sign, to still be stuck with this guy at this age.

If the Atlanta Thrashers were still around, he might actually have a chance at eking out 1000 games.

But even in today’s over-expanded NHL, I don’t think there’s a team shitty enough or tanking hard enough to dress Ryan fucking Reaves for 88 games over the course of his age 39 & 40 seasons.

Like you say, it’d be a miracle if he even plays one more game.
 
If Jackie wants to get his stats juiced for a year alongside Matthews at that cap hit, then sure, happy to have him.

But they should still be going big fish hunting. Roslovic, Domi, Danza and Robertson in the same lineup might be enough for Berube to hang himself.

Just from a quick glance at natty....Robbie scores more, draws more penalties, turns the puck over less, takes it back more....fucking hits 3-4x more, blocks 2x more shots. xGrel suggests he's also a flat out better possession player as well.

If we're not playing Robertson because he's not a complete player or some other bullshit, he appears to be much much more complete than Roslovic on the surface. If this is to add offensive punch in place of Jarnkrok or some shit, or push Laughton to the wing on the 4th line, okay fine. But if this pushes Robertson further out of the picture it's deeply stupid. Roslovic appears to be a worse player who just happened to be given a full time job on bad teams after some early career prospect hype, but didn't live up to any of it but is now something something veteran.
 
Oh, and Roslovic has 3 playoff goals in 45 career playoff games of more or less 3rd line usage.....all 3 of them powerplay goals. That's high octane playoff performance that would make Calle Jarnkrok blush.

Robbie has 2 goals in 13 games of end of the bench usage, both 5 on 5 usage.

Can we just fucking not.
 
The forward group appears to be oppo Dubas, especially if they sign Roslovic. Loaded with defensively deficient depth guys who are ok just ok offensively, with Domi being their best and Danza having the best upside.

So yeah I think if they sign Roslovic it's a sign that Robertson is for sure gone. From the sounds of it, they may cost the same salary-wise in the end, and I'm sure Robertson put his trade request back on the table at this point.
