Not particularly surprising. Not sure it's possible for any team to lose a Marner type to free agency and improve or come close to it. The fact that they're not last is impressive. Good job, Tre.

That is actually pretty promising. They are only down 13 in Doms model, with $8 mill in cap space.

If they had 2 +5-6 players they are minimally down despite losing Marner.

There is lots of upside to actually get a bit better.

Especially if you are pushing out some of the worst players on the roster (e.g. Robby -5, Kampf -6, Benoit -9, Krok -10)

Not sure he's going to appreciate just how pissed the fans will be, so he'll downplay it in his head.

Showing up in Toronto to play a road game isnt much work.
