2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

Buncha under-cooked guys getting $10 million AAVs ... but everybody said similar stuff about Blake and Stankoven last year. The difference being scale, which is mostly down to the pressure of the deadline for the 8 year contract and the rising Cap.
 
Two months to the day after Yzerman stepped down, the Red Wings named Shawn Horcoff interim GM. He’s still under consideration for the permanent head of hockey operations.

Saw Darren Dreger say that Winnipeg got bad offers for Hellebuyck, sounded like he was being a good mouth piece than reporter. Curious if Carolina kicked the tires on Hellebuyck or if we weren’t on his list.
It’s rich to sign a deal to play for a certain team, have a no trade list, then handcuff a team by not expanding that list to all teams. I think Dreger alluded that Hellebuyck wants out of Canada. Larkin is in the same situation and neither guy has been moved. I like the cujones of the ask for both guys, they’re just not operating from a place of power— need to broaden the teams and find someone to dance to make it happen.

Man. They ended up just going with the default, in-house choice and managed to somehow take the entire off season to do it. I mean, congrats guys. It takes real sloth and indecision to take months and months to do the obvious, easy thing. Well done.
 
Well it could be a good day to be said player, there is still time today for some other team willing to pay Nikishin big bucks to trade for him in a sign and trade that gets him some massive 8 year contract.

I do wonder what the Canes' offers have been. Has Nikishin and his agent just basically told the Canes that they will not sign a contract with us no matter what? I mean, just a 1 year deal gets Nikishin offer sheet/arbitration eligible and completely changes his negotiating position.

Dreger is a notorious mouthpiece for player agents wanting to get their spin out there. Multiple reporters have indicated that Carolina remains interested, but there's also been a fair amount of reporting that the Jets are sticking with their desire to get a home run return. Carolina doesn't really do that, so the timing will probably eventually throw them out of the chase. I think the Canes will have included Nikishin in any Hellebuyck offers and they'll probably move on at some point and deal him somewhere else. Larkin? Go knows what's been going on in Detroit but it seems like Horcoff needs a big mop if he wants to clean any of it up before camp starts, much less by the end of the day.

The reporting on Nikishin has been short on details so far, but it keeps getting reiterated that he's asked to be traded and doesn't want a new contract here. Could that change? Maybe, but I don't see Carolina having any incentive to improve his leverage.

I’d think the Canes are 100% not giving him a 1 year deal. That would be silly.
 
A bunch of deals tonight.

Ducks extend Cutter Gauthier, 6 years/$13.5 million AAV.

Habs extend Alex Newhook, 4 years/$5.5 million AAV. They also signed RFA Arber Xhekaj, 1 year/$1.5 million.

And the Caps extend Justin Sourdif, 8 years/$6.35 million AAV.
 
I'm pretty confident in saying that I do follow most of the league closely and I had to look up Justin Sourdif's stats from last season. I know he was with the Caps, that is about all I would have been able to say about him.
 
Two seasons from now, when the cap is $124 million (or higher), all of these massive 2nd contracts will look small compared to what the next generation of kids will be getting.

What will Connor McDavid's next AAV be? Or Nikita Kucherov's (this is the last year of his current contract).
