It was rumored that the Kings weren’t done in the trade market, even before Fiala went down. Given that when rumors fly around a team Ken Holland is managing, it’s generally because he’s literally feeding them to the press himself, I expect them to make another move or two. They had a fair amount of Cap space, and can put Fiala on LTIR to get even more. LA still have a 1st and two 2nds in this draft left and have somewhere around $18 mil in pure Cap space if they LTIR Fiala … more with the deadline math. They have the room and the assets to make moves.

That’s not an easy schedule by any stretch and despite the cushion the Canes have built by no means can you coast and take the foot off the gas.
 
Yeah, pretty much every team has something similar. Everybody wants NHLers in the Olympics and everybody complains when their team is playing like a bunch of worn out pack mules in April because of the compressed schedule. Happens every time.
 
Skinner cleared waivers, so he’s a UFA. He’s still being paid by Buffalo from the contract buyout so he’s won’t starve or anything…
 
Skinner basically walked away from around $750k in order to terminate his contract. I assume SJ told him they were going to send him down to the AHL or pretty much never play him again and he decided that collecting the remaining cash still due to him this year wasn't worth it. If he thinks that he can catch on with some other NHL team down the stretch I would say he is crazy.

Someone might give Skinner a tryout in the 2026-27 preseason, but he is pretty useless and has been for a number of years now.
 
Petr Mrazek had hip surgery and is finished for the season. He’s 34, his contract is up after the season. This might be it.

If he wants to keep playing, I’m sure he could get a contract back home in the Czech league, but yeah … I think this will be his last NHL contract.

There seems to be a lot of that going around lately. I'm not quite a week post-surgery and graduated from a walker to a cane today, though I spend most of the day in bed iced down. WOOoo!

Yeah, he was good at the dot and killing penalties but I wasn’t impressed with Tro’s play otherwise. He’d be a significant upgrade at 2C for the Canes right now, and probably next season as well but I’m still concerned with those last couple of years of his deal.

This is the deal that should unlock the post Olympics trading frenzy.

The Blues traded forward Matt Luff to the Islanders for old friend Julien Gauthier. Luff is a forward and has 16 goals, 12 assists in 111 NHL games since debuting in 2018. Gauthier has somehow managed to play 181 NHL games but none this year, he’s been in Bridgeport all season.
 
Yeah. Makes sense for Gauthier to eventually get traded for an undrafted guy. That’s been his career trajectory for a while now. Hell of a first round pick by Ron Francis, although the pool at the bottom of that first round in 2016 wasn’t exactly packed with options. Still, he left Tage Thompson on the table, who played virtually the same game as Gauthier

He also picked Jake Bean 1 pick before the Bruins grabbed Charlie McAvoy.

It was another stunning Ron Francis draft. The Canes got 44 games from Bean, 5 from Gauthier, 11 from Janne Kuokkanen and 2 from Jack LaFontaine. We got the pick that turned into Aleksi Heimosalmi for Bean, Joey Keane for Gauthier and Sami Vatanen for Kuokkanen.
