2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

Curious if you all have the same thought?

When I hear VGK, I think Marner and Eichel and to some extent, Stone. Legit stars of the game. Sane with COL and MacKinnon and Makar and now, Necas. Suzuki and Caufield don’t ring
They're on the rise though, along with Hutson on D. Legit stars as well, all 3 so don't sell 'em short! There are similar "off-brand" impressions of our lineup also, and maybe you're just referring to name recognition, but for those guys I think that's just a matter of time

I mean … not really. I’m more interested in what guys are actually doing than I am the name on their jerseys.

Right now Suzuki, Caufield and Slafkovsky are one of the best lines in the NHL.

What a stupid move by the Knights. Media attention is so important for hockey and he thinks he's above it all.

I wonder how much a good old pair of tickets off the secondary market goes for tonight at the Bell Centre……Habsy, you got some spare change???

Dang, a second round pick and 100K for not talking to the media?

Childish nonsense from a grown ass man. See, if Torts shows up at that presser and whines like a baby about the McNabb call, then HE gets fined, but if he blows it off, then he gets fined anyway AND they yank a pick. You’re basically just telling the team you work for that you can’t control your emotions for ten minutes. You have to think that Torts will never get hired again after this stunt, but … we’re ARE talking about the NHL. So …

I officially give Montreal my blessing to get that series wrapped up tonight. That way we can get Games 1 and 2 in during the week and have a shot at actually participating in our families’ Memorial Day Weekend plans …

Secondary market tix for Canadiens/Sabres tonight … $400 and change per seat US for 300 level. Honestly, not as bad as I’d have thought. Then again, that building has almost 2,000 more seats than any other NHL arena.

I agree with the XM hockey crew, it's time to give younger guys a shot and put these dinosaurs out to pasture. The "hire the grumpy hard ass old guy for 2 years and make a run of it" nonsense should go away.

That's cheaper than Sting tickets!

You have to wonder how long McDavid stays in Edmonton. He has one more year under contract. They could restock with a load of draft picks and young talent if they traded him. He can't be happy there. If he says he is, he's putting up a facade. If I was him I'd run like a cat with its tail on fire. He could push several teams over the top to be an immediate contender.

He’s got two more years, but either way this is the last chance saloon for the Oilers with regards to McDavid. They absolutely cannot afford to let him walk without getting assets in return, so 2026-27 is it for them. And even then, he’s got them by the short and curlies because he’s got a full no movement clause. So any trade you make requires his agreement. Will he want to … for example … go to Toronto for Matthews and whatever make-evens they throw in? Maybe, maybe not. I wouldn’t if I was him.

Job 1 … find a coach that both McDavid and Draisaitl will actually listen to. Good luck.

Job 2 … find a goalie who isn’t bonkers and isn’t Tristan Jarry. Good luck with that as well.

Job 3 … build a defense than can defend. Which probably requires shooting Darnell Nurse and his ridiculous contract into the sun.

I could keep going, but those three are impossible enough. Even with McDavid on a dime store contract relative to his value, they still have so many bad deals that they’ve only got $16 million to work with this summer and half a roster to fill out. And pretty much anybody you’d like to trade off the current roster has movement protection of some kind other than Bouchard, who you’d probably want to keep. It’s a MESS

Not comparing myself to Gauthier in any shape or form, but…

In 2025 I got into a neutral ice collision with a beer league opponent and broke the T9 vertebrae in my back and didn’t know it. I played for at least another six weeks until the break was detected in an x-ray I had taken for an unrelated reason. By that point, the break was far along to healing and my chiropractor only had me take six weeks off before I was permitted to get back on the ice.

My point being that you can suffer bone breaks and not experience any pain. I shudder, however, at the thought of taking an NHL-level hit with any broken bones in your back (something I obviously didn’t experience in beer league!).

correct. I had a broken back, neck and leg and was never aware of any of them. They were found during a chiropractor visit many years later.
