He is a good 2C when all your dots are connected

Leafs have many dots that dont connect and a core that chokes and is soft as margarine

Mobility issues on the back end , no PP QB , ETC..

Your paying 8+ mil for a 50 point player without the Panthers overall depth of skill, grit, will , and killer instinct

Ekblad is gone but will find a way to keep Sam

Fla will use freed up Ekblad + Bennett space to sign Marner - Lundell (aka mini Barkov) will get the promo to 2C as he begins his ascent

Jones was acquired to be Ekblad replacement & they'll sign a cheaper options like say Perbix?

Perbix + Marner for Ekblad + Bennett cap hit

Wouldn’t shock me if we see a sign & trade: both Marner & Bennett sign 8yr deals and swapped

The sucking up by Maurice, Tkachuk, Marchand etc after game 7, was part of the recruiting campaign

Nice post but highly doubt it

Ekblad is gone .....Perbix or cheap option is acquired and Jones was his replacement

Zito isnt paying Marner IMO and will keep Sam for around 7 mil

Marchand is gone and they will find a cheap plug for the top 9

In much better shape after next year when BOBO expires and becomes a 3 mil 1B tandem

No it isn't. It never was, isn't now, and never will be. The objective is the number at the bottom of the earnings page. If they win the Cup it will be coincidental but it's not and never will be essential. For winning championships to matter MLSE would first need to fear that the fanbase would stop buying their product unless things were done to further the cause of winning. But they have no such fear because the Leafs fanbase is even more delusional than Cowboys fans. They will never not buy the product so that revenue may be taken for granted.

Winning is only a priority for teams that rely on it to attract fans to the arena. A team in a non-traditional hockey market cannot ice a shit product indefinitely because people aren't that passionate about the sport to begin with. But no Canadian based team needs to win in order to be wildly successful on the balance sheet. Naturally they all pay lip service to winning but they know they're going to make a fuck ton of money every year whether they win or don't.

I never said Make Beliefs would actually win, only what Keith Pelley’s stated as orgs only focus / objective

Sure. But what Pelley stated was the usual post-season boilerplate crap about wanting to win. He has to say it but we don't have to believe it because we have eyes and brains with the power of recall. We can remember his predecessors saying the same things before and we saw that in practice, nothing real was changed. And I have little doubt that if Marner's contract wasn't expiring and even if he didn't have a NTC there would be no thought given to trading him. They are only moving on from him because they have to. Otherwise they'd be happy keeping the status quo. All they've ever done during this near decade of post-season failure is sacrifice a coach or a non-essential player here or there to be the scapegoat. A little red meat to throw to the media jackals. But nothing meaningful.

What else is he going to say , "making 5 mil a year to watch these losers get smashed every year "

Leafs need obvious change but need to find the balance between making the playoffs and going through them

Marner alone is 10 points in the standings , letting him walk better yield proper reinforcements in return

I luv Bennet but he isnt turning 34 and 88 into playoff warriors
