2026 NHL UFA/Trade Thread

It kind of was, didn't the parents do little until he was drafted then they told the world what a cunt he was?

As for excuses, I don't see it as excusing but the lawyer in me always has to find ways to defend, explain, distinguish situations. Sad as it might be, I can't see the world as solely black and white, right and wrong, just varying degrees on a spectrum. This guy is far on left of bad on left to right spectrum of bad but age/maturity is a factor so that leads to questions for me.

I admit, I have defended my son and advocated for him when he likely wrong so even if Miller's parents are dickwads, I understand if they defended their son. I might have told my son he was wrong privately, but no way admitted to teachers, insurers, hockey organizations or whomever. It's the parent and lawyer in me, and (irony intended, I don't apologize for it).

But i would deal with it at the time and not demand he not be allowed to play in NHL or whatever he wanted to do for a living. Yiu also can't base decisions on the "what if it were your..."

No. It was known before the draft and was on most teams no draft list. That’s why he fell to the 4th round even though he was a first round talent. Parents were trying to deal with the situation for years. It just got more public visibility around the draft.

Not everything has to be a legal gray area. The people who run the NHL can simply decide that hes an asshole and punish him by banning him. I dont give a shit about how old he was. The NHL is telling this guy to go and be an asshole somewhere else.

And NOBODY acts that toxic in middle school without parental consent. And he wasnt removed from his home, so it's safe to assume that he's just an adult asshole now.

People today dont seem to understand the need for idiots who act like this to be punished. Sure, rehabilitation exists, but you shouldn't be eligible to pursue it instead of being punished; it should only be available to you AFTER you have been properly punished for your bad deeds.

Its like the anti-vax mandate freedumbers. Now that we're past Covid, they just go on their merry way having learned nothing. So the next time mandates become necessary the same idiots will reappear. This is because they weren't properly punished at the time thwy first got stupid and disobedient.

Miller is the way he is because at the moment he needed a beat down he never got one.

Nah man, this is not true. There was a blatant and admitted withholding of truth regarding the vaccine effectiveness in favor of a simplifified vaccine mandate message. Example #1: Disregarding natural resistance based on previous infection, which has been true for every virus known to man but somehow not this one. Example #2: Mandating vaccines to children even though they were not at risk. Example #3: Mandating vaccine as a way to protect the vulnerable even though it was known that the vaccine would not be effective in preventing transmission.

Many scientists withdrew from the advisory committee when they realized that the government was ignoring scientific data in order to pursue a societal agenda.

The people whining about their inconvenience didn't know science from a boot to the head. They disobeyed because they were selfish, self-centered assholes who refused to do the bare minimum, not because of any "scientific reservations". They're a bunch of inbreds who get their medical advice from Theo Fleury.

And they needed to be punished.

That’s cute! Grouping inconvenient people in a convenient basket. I'm an engineer, trained to be a data driven person, I lean left but I'm an independent, I don't do identity politics, I looked at the data and the data was trash. Yes the vaccine was effective in reducing severe complications but that's pretty much it. Nothing to warrant a mandate and people losing their livelihood. I call it as it is.
 
Livelihood? These smooth brained yokels could barely walk and chew gum. The reason they were able to spend 3 weeks making a nuisance of themselves in Ottawa was because they had no damn jobs even before Covid. They weren't analyzing data. They were listening to Russian bot farmers.
