2026 NHL UFA/Trade Thread

I mean if Byram was signed to like 3-6 years at a reasonable price you could almost forgive the price if you squint hard enough. But he could possibly walk away in a year.

It is alleged that SJS drove up the price. But, c’mon, walk away.
Grier stated publicly last night they’re ready to deal 2OA but want a top-4D in 23-25 age range w ability to play in all situations

still have to wonder if there’s a way to grab 2OA in some type of package w Guhle

Five years ago half the league was tanking. Now almost every team is in win now mode and can’t wait three years for their top 5 pick to develop.

Yep.

But, even with the increase, apparently some teams are aware of cap constraints. Examples: Ducks are staring down barrel of multiple 10M+ players, Stars are already there.

Point is, there might be some opportunities to exploit good contract structure. Credit to Burger Van and the Suzuki contract.

Some teams dont generate the revenue to hit the cap ceiling so players will be available

It all comes down to making smart decisions based on your teams standings in the league
