Heh. Nice. According to the allmighty CORSI, David Clarkson is apparently our best forward.

To be fair, I think it's Franson who is killing Rielly. It's anecdotal, but how many times have we seen Rielly as the man back on an a 2-1? Now, how many times have we seen Franson as that man back?

He's been a step off of his level from last season.

Yeah, Franson has been pretty awful lately. I wouldn't mind getting Rielly away from him.

I think you need to break up Gunn and Phaneuf for the good of the team. They are the Leafs best two defensive players and it might be better to seperate them for balance purposes. Or Randy will need to play them a lot more.

Its hard to break them up because they play the toughest minutes. Not sure I'm confident in any of our other dmen to handle Gunnar's current role. Those guys don't get a break. Every shift is a big one. Its more important to be reliable in those situations than the ones the other pairs have been facing.

Franson has been pretty brutal defensively though. Maybe you put him back with Fraser/Ranger on the third pair with sheltered minutes and try Gardiner-Rielly as the 2nd pair.

The team needs to do something about team defense. Allowing 40 shots a game puts a lot of pressure on the goalie, and if the goalie isn't playing his best, you're going to allow 4 goals with those kind of shot totals.

The big takeaway from those numbers for me is that he's using the 2nd and 3rd defense pairings wrong. He's gotta give harder duty to gardiner-ranger and ease up on rielly-franson.

and using Corsi Relative masks how bad the leafs have played defensively.

Corsi On paints a much uglier picture.

They might have to trade Franson. He is going to want a lot of money for a guy who is looking like a PP specialist.

The odd thing about the Leafs season is their poor shot differential is probably as unsustainable as anything...

Finally someone said it.

i just don't know how the leafs make it work cap-wise.

a more probably trade is franson for a centre and a pick or prospect

O'Reilly's at 5M, Franson's at 2M, so the Leafs would need to add about 3M to the deal. If the Leafs add Kulemin to the deal, it works, but that's too much for the Leafs to give up. Unless maybe the Avs send back a prospect or pick as well.

Why would we want Ryan O'Reilly anyways? He's an average-sized 50 point center that we'd have to give a $6.5M qualifying offer to in the summer, or let him go to UFA.

I get that we're in tough at center ice at the moment, but no stupid trades please.

O'Reilly is a solid two way, 50-60 point player. An ideal #2 C. He'd basically be a replacement for Bolland.

You could always negotiate a long term deal for him at smaller cap hit.
