Only one night off between games 1 and 2 and games 3 and 4. Repeated 2 night breaks take the flow right out of it. For most fans, interest is higher during the first two rounds and seems to wane after (among other reasons because by then most fans' teams are gone). This kind of scheduling doesn't help. I miss the intensity of the shorter playoffs of years gone by......among other things. Whine,whine...
There was no travel between games 1 and 2 and games 3 and 4.
This is just how it's done in the finals.
Me too. That's the inherent flaw of that sport. You only have to watch the last 5-10 minutes.

Game 3 was excellent. The first two games and most of the playoffs have sucked. NHL playoffs for the most part have been excellent but the final has sucked. All blowouts, kinda weird.
Actually game 1, 2 and 3 were all pretty good. The last 2 have been a little less dramatic.

ok, gotcha. The travel part, though mentioned, didn't sink in I guess. That's what happens when you try to fit working around reading posts. Regardless...point still stands. Killer.
It is relatively new I believe. When we won in 1993, it was day off between all five games.
You do realize that the 5:00 PM EST start time of each game is the standard for the NHL Finals regardless of which teams are in it? It is possible that a couple of games may have started at 6:00 PM EST had there been a west coast team in there but Nashville is treated the same as any EST team for the Finals.
I'm just glad I've not had to get up for 9:00 AM PST to watch a game I cared about on the weekend because NBC likes it that way.
As for the 2-day breaks, I don't really care because I am only half-watching the NHL these days but it does seems incredulous that the Habs somehow ended up playing a couple of back-to-back nights in the playoffs over the past few years.
The NBA Commissioner must have just cried when GS roared back to take the lead in Cleveland with 3 or 4 minutes to go and the Cavs had no fight left to respond. It's weird watching the clock run down at basically normal time in the final 2 minutes of an NBA game with no timeouts every 10-seconds or forced fouls.
Silver is so nerdy. I think Bettman could take him.

The NHL never goes head to head against the NBA because they know they'll lose. So they schedule their games around the basketball schedule.
Also, there was a possibility of an Ottawa - Anaheim final which would have been heavy travelling for both teams so the two day breaks were baked in. The schedule was set before the semi Finals were over.

It would be really dumb for either league to go against each others. Most people wants to watch both (well most hockey fans at least).
