So Edm traded a 2nd and two depth prospects for an ok 3rd liner (who's having a rough year) at a $1.15m caphit, plus a borderline nhl guy.

Their bottom six needed to get bigger and tougher. These moves address that.

Gourde and Tanev I could live with

honestly Tanev would really bug me because he's solely a winger and not even a guy you want on the 3rd line and they're not taking Lorentz or Jarnkrok out of the line up so adding Tanev will just end up booting a skilled player out of the lineup.
