If I’m recalling correctly, the common argument was:

Risto > Rielly
A.Nylander > Sexy Nylander
Eichel > Matthews
Reinhart > Marner

#2 moreso than #4. But both seemed to be pretty commonly held beliefs out there among non-Leaf fans.

Though to be clear, I’m not referring to the non-Leaf fans on this forum.

“Hockey Twitter”, Buffalo hockey reporters and the prospects forums on HFBoards were the main culprits.

Nahh, the McDavid question’s already been answered now too.

With the big advantages Matthews holds over him when it comes to goal-scoring and his all-around game, McDavid only really has an argument if he’s lapping Matthews when it comes to total points and/or points per game.

Since he’s not even doing that anymore, it’s official. Matthews > McDavid.
