Tanev didn't play last year so our D was 3 decent to good dman and 3 shittastic dmen playing in a hilaribad system

And Tanev might be cooked or cooking, both from a deteriorating skillset or unable to stay on the ice angle.

All of McCabe, OEL, Rielly are old or older, so at any given point the wheels can fall off.

The Leaf D core is old, bad and expensive, that's not disputable really.

Obviously a coaching change makes a huge difference, as does getting anything from 5/6/7 and replacing Carlo ( who in this thread is fucking dogshit, but still has name value apparantly) but the short and long term viablity of this D corps should very much be in question with absolutely dick coming up the pipeline save for Rad Radford.

McCabe/Tanev/Rielly/OEL is very old on the back end. None of them are getting more mobile and if for some reason we keep Berube, do Rielly a favour and get him to another market.

I wouldnt be against moving all 3 of Carlo, OEL and Rielly if legit offers exist. If SJ is horny for Rielly then get some young pieces back.

It's CTE if you bring back both Berube/Rielly.

The problem is that what Rielly was, and maybe still is ( who the fuck knows) is what this team kinda needs.

In no world do they need Craig.

Adding Tanev plus two good mobile dmen to the three good dmen we had last year would obviously be a massive improvement, and only a dumb fat person would argue otherwise. That's half the dcorps.

always the chance that a player falls off a cliff, old and young really, but these 4 have all been very good in the very recent past. Tanev was arguably the best defensive dman in hockey on the most effective shutdown pair in hockey the year before, in hilariously tough usage.

and no, the leafs' dcorps isn't expensive, dumdum. As of right now the Dcorps ranks 21st in caphit for next year - but that's with 7 dmen signed and counting against the cap compared to most other teams not having a full dcorps signed with only 4-6 dmen counting so even getting all the other teams to just sign their RFA dmen would drop us to about #25 in dcorps caphit.
