but again, voters almost never vote for a cup loser unless the stats are otherworldy.

but if he can't win anything on the ice the leafs haters will definitely vote him a consolation prize.

It took McDavid scoring 42 points in 25 games in 2024 to become only the second non-goalie ever to win the Conn Smythe in a losing effort. On the one hand, Mitch isn't quite at that level. On the other hand, Carolina doesn't have a goalie to offer up as a serious candidate, and their offensive production has been such a by-a-committee effort that it's tough to single out any one of them for the Conn Smythe.

Hopefully Staal can keep scoring at least a goal every game on the way to Carolina winning. That, plus him being a sympathetic gudpro "plays the right way" veteran leaderbean would hopefully be enough to capture the voters. Especially if combined with Mitch pulling his games 5-7 disappearing act.

Mitch will get a lot of votes just based on the Leaf hate bias. I agree it would be hilarious if he won it without the Cup. The dry hair “wake the fuck up” memes would be gold.

Need Staal to get 6-9 goals over the next 2/3 games.

If Staal is a party to winning 2/3 games he's the exact kind o winner that will get votes, and based on his final, sure why not?
