But they have ONE whole extra first rounder over the next three years to go with their late firsts who may be years away or total busts. Hard to imagine how that window ever closes.
 
The Canes are well positioned to keep this window open long term. But this is a team with 1st round picks contributing throughout their lineup.

I don’t think their prospect and pick pool raises their ceiling unless they use it to get a stud.

You’re just replacing good players in the lineup with other good players like they just did with Stankoven, Hall, Blake, Nikishin, Miller for Necas, Teravainen, Trochek, Burns, Hamilton.
 
At least you stay a good team for a long time that way, and can hope that year the stars align for you in the playoffs.

Problem is, here you might just get frustrated if they didn't, blow it up and hire a dumdum.
 
A team will take a chance on nurse with retention. The “change of scenery” philosophy is always something teams will use to help convince themselves.
 
He hasnt been good since the year before he signed the contract in where his shooting % went through the roof and looked like top pair defender

He got paid then looked like a middle pair defender

Last year he regressed to a bottom pair defender
