There’s still a few teams with tons of cap space. I expect some will overpay for remaining UFAs or take on big unwanted contracts because they have nothing better to spend it on. But this is obviously a good move for Chicago on a bunch of fronts.
Its just basic sense, with a premium for Kane to not ring chase.
It gets the fans excited, gives them a flawed but still kinda top 6 guy for Bedard and a natural mentor for Nazar/Lardis/ and he and Byram should be turning the PP into an asset as well.
