Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

Devils went way off the board with their first rounder so I'm curious to see how that works out! They picked a guy that was a late riser and really came on late in the year, not unlike the Leafs with Cowan the other year.

Raddysh +$28.7 A+
Andrae +$5.9m B+

we were so happy.....

....then UFA day

Roslovic +$0.8 B-
Blueger +$0.4 B-
Paul -$1.8 C+
Duhaime -$4.8 C-
Sissons -$5.1 C-
Bobrovsky -$10.1 C-

and

Hildeby +2.8 B-
Woll +$0.5 B-

Though the leafs get lucky and are better than Dom's ranking because clearly Domi is out for the year so they get out of jail for free on that one, while we get McKenna and Cowan playing on ELCs which he doesn't include here.
Throw this away if it has Nylander at negative value, not to mention significant negative value.

I’m glad it kinda all lines up with our thoughts really. Makes sense.

Yeah, what the fuck is up with that? Guy is coming off a season where he scored at a 38-goal/100-point pace in 65 games.

Does he need to beat Gretzky’s 215 points in order to live up to the contract by Dom’s metrics?

it's definitely a little strange given there's only $11.5 x6yrs left on it, through age 35, and in the first 2yrs of it he's scored at a 45gl/85pt and 38gl/100pt pace for an average of 42gl/90pt pace.

Doesn't help that his and the entire team's defensive metrics absolutely cratered last year I guess.

This is exactly what is going on there. Willy was the 22nd highest rated forward in hockey last year in Dom's system, but the 9th worst defensive forward in hockey.

We were just so bad defensively last year that it heavily fucked everyone's defensive metrics.

Eh, top 10 picks really don't apply in a similar manner to the rest of the draft. Apply that to passing on Aho for Dermott, sure. But taking a big standard CHL #1C over a D breaking records in the NCAA is dumb.
Loads of luck involved still. Less than later in the draft sure, but that does not mean 0 luck involved. I prefer taking a swing on an elite offensive d just cuz he has more upside than a Hayton. So that deserves criticism, but no one thought hughes would be this good at the time, not even Vancouver. Good swing to take at 7 at the time for sure though.

Good Lord. This one might've eclipsed the Patrick Roy deal among all-time Hab disasters.

Lecavalier was on the precipice of falling off a cliff and the Lightning already had Stamkos, were about to draft Hedman with the 2009 second overall pick and were one year away from selecting Kucherov in the second round.

Wild to think about adding a prime Carey Price to that core, with a 25 year-old Turtleneck & 20 year-old Subban as throw-ins.
