I suspect Nemec's cost might be more of the idea that he is a young 1D when Im not convinced he actually is one.

Being safe is gay. If the nerds find something about him that appears to be grossly undervalued, there is no better situation to grab a potential top pair guy for the next 10+ years. If he gets traded, it'll be for less than y'all think. He has proven nothing.
Granted, if the nerds come back and say there's nothing about him that we like, then you move on. But you better be taking a real close look here.

No one is trading a Willy or Knies for a guy that has sucked in the NHL and asked for a trade. Relax.

Do the due diligence, for sure. Pedigree is great, but this dude has been underwhelming since his debut and now demanding a trade at 22? It's right to be cautious here...

Yeah that's probably where his trade value is at roughly. Nice comp there, same age as when Jiricek got traded, both highly touted and haven't put it together, could use a change of scenery etc. In the Leafs case it would be Colorado's 1st rounder + I don't know.. Stan Danford maybe. It's a risk because he might suck, but not a huge one in that it's gonna cripple your future if you're wrong. Though admittedly I might be overstating his value with that proposed offer.
If the nerds see something there, I'd be open to it.

The same package gets you a RHD that is actually good and not maybe one day good. Id rather just keep the picks and go in on Raddysh + Andersson as plan A

But the appeal is that you think nemec has top pair upside as a 22 year old. The cost reflects the upside, not necessarily the expected value. It's the kind of swing I want Chayka to make (for the right guy).
It's one thing to get a good, just good 28-32 year old like the leafs have done for many years with muzzin, Brodie, McCabe, etc. but if they land on a guy like this, it sets you up for a decade+.
Of course he may just suck and in that case you simply don't make the trade.

The risk also has to reflect that he wants to be paid like he's good now and not maybe good later. His rumoured asking price is 9 Millie
That's just too much risk for a an almost 23 yr old who has been a bum so far.

I know he's young and has a lot of talent, but I'm skeptical of a dman that was one of the worst defensive players in NHL in heavily sheltered minutes.
