Around The League - 2025 Playoffs

But it's fine for Montembeault
Over last 8 seasons Hellebuyck has played: 67, 63, 58 (all games before Covid shutdown), 45, 66, 64, 60, 63

Diekembe played 62 this past season, 41 is the most he’s ever played… last season

Hellebuyck has been wayyyy overused for a very long stretch now

Vasilevsky has played over 60GP 4x during his career, his worst 4-playoff seasons. When he’s limited to 53GP or less, his playoff performance has been very good….. IMO that’s more than a coincidence

But I agree that Montembault was overplayed this year. He did look pretty solid in the playoffs until he was hurt, but there were stretches in the season that were not great.

Gotta get him down to 50 games.

60/40 split was my thinking as well. Need Dobes or Primeau to step up.

Fowler the year after next.

There is something else going on, never seen a goalie having such a drop in performance so consistently in the playoffs. It’s like a drop of 0.08 in save %.
The word you're grasping for is "clutch" and Hellebuyck isn't it. He's playing against the same goalie he lost to at the 4 Nations.

Overall, Hellebuyck is a better goalie than Binnington but Binnington is clutch. That's why he has a ring and Hellebuyck doesn't. And if both their careers ended today Binnington would have had the better career, even though statistically he would look nowhere near as good. Cups matter.

There is clutch, which is raising your game in key moments, and there is completely forgetting how to play. He’s not even an NHL goalie right now.

That’s a symptom of a team still trying to grow into itself — Monty, Matheson, Newhook all playing above their ideal time slots

We got lucky that Hutson went from playing 40 college games to a full NHL season of big minutes without missing a single beat
