Around the NHL 2016-2017

Looks like there's relatively little hockey discussion right now but there is a fight between Habs blogger and... well, all Leaf fans for him saying the Habs have a better U25 group at forward, d, and in goal.

Riiiiiight. Not even sure most Habs fans here would agree with that.

Matthews alone makes this impossible.

I like Drouin, Galchenyuk, Lehkonen a lot (especially the first 2)... but I take Matthews, Marner, Nylander over them in a heartbeat. And that is ignoring some other solid U25 Leafs.

sure, we're shit in goal... but I'd like to see the rationale for the other two now that Sergachev has been dealt.

Well Sergachev was dealt for Drouin who is also U25 so I don't think that would have an impact on this guy's stupid opinion. He was wrong either way.

They don't even have more NHL prospects at those positions either. As much as I like reading a digital dust up, there has to be an argument worth reading. There simply isn't one here. The Habs system is barren right now. After Drouin & Galchenyuk there's not a lot of even impact potential. If we're talking about purely depth prospects...for every McCarron, Carr, DLR, Hudon, Scherbek they have, we have a Gauthier, Leivo, Johnsson, Bracco, Grundstrom, Rychel, Timashov, Nielsen, etc, etc, etc

We might be the worst team in the league to make a pure depth comparison against right now. The amount of legitimate NHL prospects we have is mental.

Yeah, the argument doesn't really work on any level.

It's just funny that it falls apart even if you assume every name on the Leaf list after Matthews is garbage.

@grantmccagg

Imo Drioun is better than every Leafs forward except Matthews. Five of the top 8 forwards between the two teams are Habs.

How is Drouin better than Nylander or Matthews? Both exceeded his career highs as rookies and he's 3 years older.

Are you sure he didn't just mean a better D? How could we have a better U25 D when we won't have a single U25 Dman on our roster?

This was his tweet, you decide I guess.

There is no debate.... they are better than us by a mile

Yeah I read that as him thinking the Habs have a better D... but the whole "U 25 Habs being better" thing is too dumb... it makes anything else he posted worthless.

Not even sure it's as clear of a winner anymore aside from U25. Markov seems like a huge loss for me.

I dont agree with the premise that the habs are better in u25 talent... but people forget how much u25 talent the habs have. 5 of the habs top 6 forwards are u25. And the only one who isnt is pacioretty who is 28.

Defence is meh... drafted a bunch this year plus mete and juulsen. But yeah pretty average group of prospects and nothing u25 on big club.

Goalie has lindgren and mcniven two top tier goalie prospects. One of the best in ahl and chl goalie of the year. Plus hawkey fucale and primeau

Dont think its better than the leafs but drouin galchenyuk gallagher lehkonen and danault is a good collection of u25 fwd talent.

Agreed... Markov was a massive loss. I do think the Habs D is better than the Leafs though. That said... it's not a ton better and the Leafs' top dman are a lot younger so it's unlikely that the current Habs D will be better much longer.

Got a quick Q for Sens fans here ... me and my wife planning another quick weekend trip to Ottawa in January, and possibly catch the Leafs - Sens game there. I don't see the single game tickets available yet (and StubHub is WAY overpriced right now) ... when do single game tickets generally go on sale on ticketmaster?

I hear there's a sale at the local JC Penny's that day, and a couple of local bingo halls have doubled the value of the Swiss Chalet gift cards they're giving away as prizes, so understandably Sens fans will have other things to do that night, and there will probably be a ton of empty seats in the building as a result.

So you can probably just roll up to the box office at game time and grab tickets.
